My family gave me lovebirds for Mother's Day last year. More mouths to feed, but was sweet gift from the kids. Fast forward, I just discovered the other day they have eggs in the nesting box! Never had birds before! What do I do? HELP!!!!!!!!!

Do you know if they are a male and female? Could just be females that have laid eggs but won't be fertilized. Can I ask why there is a nesting box in their cage? I have had birds for more than 26 years, and the only birds that had a nesting box in their cage was our flock of finches when they had eggs. And yes, they hatched. I would hop over to this board, and they will help you immensely! forums.avianavenue.com/index.php

Female birds don't need a male to lay eggs. A woman I know says to leave the egg in the nest to keep the bird from laying anymore.
For better advice check out the bird boards.

Yes, you don't want to remove the egg(s) unless they have been in there for a month or so. And hopefully she doesn't have anymore or become egg bound. Definitely check the link above I listed.

Pretty sure it is a male and female as I have caught them "in the act" a few times prior to the egg discovery! . It was my son that yelled out mom, "the birds are doing something strange". That led to an interesting discussion...whole other thread for that. We have a nesting box because that is what the guy sold my husband. We are clueless about birds and thought that was their house to sleep in at night! Lately, I have been like geesh birds....use your box instead of "doing it" in front of the kids!!!! LOL
