So my husband has his favorite chair and naturally it is a recliner. No matter what I say, he won't agree to get rid of it and since he has back problems I don't argue with him too much, I've just asked him if I can reupholster it. "No way" is his answer, "it won't feel the same". So we have been on the search for a new one but here's the kicker. He insists that when he sits in a recliner or any other chair for that matter, that the back must be at a 45 degree angle. He will absolutely go in stores and sit in chairs and say "Nope, this is about a 50 degree angle". (He is a construction engineer, I guess that is where he gets it from). The few recliners we have found that are at the required 45 degree angle had too much padding where the back of the head rests meaning his head is tilted forward more than he wants. I'm tired of searching for the "perfect" chair, why won't he just let me recover the old one................geesh.............you ladies have a husband that picky.

Tell him the chair won't feel the same, it'll feel better. He can work with whomever you hire to recover the chair. When they have the old cover off, they can repair and replace worn spots in his well loved chair. If there is an area that isn't quite as supportive as he'd like, they can put in a firmer piece of padding. They could pop a memory foam layer in. They can do all sorts of things and make his beloved chair even better, all while keeping his precious 45 degree angle. Find a good shop and they'll make it look pretty for you and feel happy for him. My DH isn't very picky, but one of my brothers is. My poor SIL has learned to pick her battles, much like you have.

I don't know about the angle but we had a heck of a time finding a recliner that doesn't push your head forward. Great for reclining but if someone doesn't want to recline, it's very uncomfortable.

There were 2 recliners in the trailer when we bought it. They were tiny and very uncomfortable. we looked for 2 years before we found comfy ones(at costco) that we both liked. so we bought them. They were a name brand and they were not cheap. we had them for about 2 yeas and the arm fell off mine one day. not sure how and why it did it but we went out and started looking for something new. we decided we wanted a couch that reclined. now that was a hard one to fined because we had a max length we were working with. so we finally found one. it was comfy in the store when we sat in it reclining or not.a nd when we laid across it. but when we got ours it was not comfy to lay on it. but we figured that it was ok because we never laid on it because we always had to have room for both of us to sit on it. fas forward to moving into our house. we brought said couch with us. it SUCKED! after a year we bought a new couch.
we did buy husband a new recliner when we moved in last year. it is a over stuffed extra big swivel rocking recliner. well. IT SUCKS! well I should say it sucks to get out of it. I have to actually scoot to the back of the chair when I sit in it after I recline it. then when I go to get out of it I have to kind bounce the chair...... It is reall comfy to lay in it though... so when we finally got our new couch we put the recliner in the bedroom.... I so want to sit in it and relax maybe read a book. but I keep thinking If I get it in I will never get out of it again.....
why is 45 degrees important to your husband?

Get him a Stressless, he can adjust it to his hearts content. They are very comfortable.

Have you measured his current recliner to see if it sits at a 45° angle? Maybe it's a moot point.
