Since you can do without the A/C, nope, not a gift to me. Enjoy riding your bike with your DD.

I will never, ever forget the year I gave my mom a new mailbox for Christmas.
It was not pretty.

No that would suck! That's worse than car stuff . Unless it's just not part of the budget. I'm glad you got a bike, that sounds like fun.

I spent a ridiculous amount of years believing each birthday, anniversary, and Christmas was my Grade Card of Love and Worth. It's not. So many tears and tantrums until I realized he's loved me all along. He's not a shopper and has always showed me his adoration in ways that actually matter.

I'm enjoying all of the affirmation. The thing is DH is a crappy gift giver. He can not th.ink outside of practical. We all joke that for Christmas we will get socks, underwear and golf balls. And no one golfs but him. I don't really care but it always makes me chuckle. I shop for myself for all presents and am happy with that. Our bikes are exactly what I wanted so all is good. I was just curious if you all thought the way I do. The air conditioner will get replaced eventually from household accts. and I will be flying around on my new beautiful bike. (But now I want streamers and a horn!)

I am such a dork, I wouldn't think this is a bad gift at all. For birthdays past, I have asked for such gems as a new toilet, lighting fixtures, a drill, a new lawn mower, and other such silly things. I have also received some of those types of things without asking. But...this is isn't about what I think is okay, it is about what you think. I love this: "Oh, Honey, it sounds like you're struggling to come up with a gift idea for me. I'd love to help you. Shall I put together a list and you and the kids can go shop from it?"

Not a birthday present. I think an appliance can work as a gift. Something like upgrading a builder grade oven for someone that loves to bake, or a new sewing machine with all the bells and whistles for someone that enjoys sewing. Replacing a major appliance out of necessity, and calling it a birthday gift, no bueno. Have fun biking with your DD, and have a happy birthday.

You don't get to take it with you when you sell, so not a gift in my book. That's a household maintenance purchase. DH would be getting a new water heater for his birthday if he tried to convince me that A/C was my gift.

But I do think for his birthday I may buy him some furnace filters and call it a day. Oh, yeah! Good for you on getting the bikes! Sounds great!

I'm betting his man brain spoke the thought that it would be a perfect way of killing two birds with one stone before his husband brain put the brakes on the idea quick.

I have to say that we do stuff like that! We are often on a tight budget, so when something breaks, we replace it and say that was expensive, so since we bought a new dishwasher, we won't spend money on our birthdays.
But if we had money, we would buy each other a little something. My husband is a good gift giver, I am not! My poor husband once needed a "fancy" saw because we had projects to do in the house and he needed the saw to do the projects. I said, that that could be his birthday and Christmas gift. Poor guy, he bought it so we wouldn't have to hire someone to do all the work. Told you I stink at gifts!

I am not creative and I get so stressed out trying to pick out good gifts. I love my family, but like your husband, I am not a shopper. I too like to show my love in other ways that matter - fix his favorite dinner, make cookies, make a photo album for him, etc.
