My mom and I just returned from vacation and have a lot of photos we'd like to develop. We've used physical Walmart stores for this for quite a while, but there always seems to be a problem, and I'm done with them.
What at are your favorite online companies? I know this has been discussed here, and I tried to search but I guess I'm bad at it, because I'm not coming up with the results I want.
Mom will be uploading her own photos and she's not at all "techie," so ease of use/navigation is important. We also prefer matte finish.
What at say the peas? Who do you use? TIA!
ETA: I've used Shutterfly and Snapfish in the past (not sure why I stopped), but I can't remember particular likes and dislikes for each and I'm curious about the other players out there.

Another vote for mpix. They are the only printers I'll use if I don't need a print right away.

It doesn't seem like they offer a matte finish? Unless they are calling it something different. I don't think it's what they call lustre...

From you title I thought you were going to be asking about actual film development, lol.
For digital, Mpix is my go to for quality prints.

I use Snapfish. They offer matte finish (but you have to make sure you choose it, as glossy is the default setting).

Mpix for sure. The quality difference between Mpix and places like Walmart, Costco, Shutterfly and Snapfish is astounding. Their lustre finish is exactly what I have always considered Matte. I know from spending 11 years working in photo labs that what is sold as Matte typically comes in from the manufacturer labeled Lustre.

I go cheap, so Snapfish for most things. If I wanted an 8x10 or something then I might use somewhere else.

I use persnickety prints.
They have several paper and finish choices.

I really like Persnickety Prints. They do a very nice job and they are pretty quick.

Lustre is probably the closest you will find to a matte finish in a consumer level lab. It does have a bit of a sheen to it, but also a bit of a texture. It isn't super slick like glossy and won't show finger prints.

I am bumping this thread so I can whine.
I am going to have to find a new photo developer as I just discovered Snapfish no longer offers the option to make your color photos black & white. They used to offer sepia too, for that matter.
What's up w/that?!! Who takes away features? What happened to things getting bigger and better?
Needless to say, I am ticked off.

I haven't tried Mpix but have heard great things about it. I love the photo printing results from digital that my local Sam's Club gets from their Fugi printers. Those machines have an extra color that most other printers don't have-the colors jump off the print. I've been meaning to send the same digital image to both Sam's Club and Mpix to compare the two. Haven't gotten around to it yet.
That's an idea for you before you develop all of your vacation photos. Narrow your choices down to two or three places and then send the same photo to those places for prints. Then compare that prints and see which one you like the best. Then have all of your vacation photos printed there.

I used to use Mpix but the last two batches of photos I got were terrible I actually ended up reordering some of them they were so bad thinking it was just an off day and the second print run was different but still awful. Very muddy, very dark, just terrible both of them. Not all what I'm used to getting from them. I switched to persnickety for large batches. Our Costco is terrible, the colors are very garish, I guess you could say too saturated. Since each Costco has their own printing center every Costco will be different I would do a few pictures to test. That is what I have done, one our Walgreens does a very good job, the other ones not so much, but our Costco is bad. For large orders I use Persnickety.

Winkflash. I have used them in the past and they are great. If you have a Walgreens near I use them a lot too, I do not use Walmart. Burn me too many times.

I use York Photo. You have to be sure to check matte with them as well, as glossy is their default too.
