I love how this place can help me see things from so many different viewpoints. I can come here with a vent and after a few people have replied I can leave feeling differently than I originally did. When we stay within our own group of friends or colleagues it is so easy to all have the same opinion. On this board we have such a huge variety of people to draw insight from.
I love you guys!!

I have lived in the same small town for 30+ years and most people here are the same as me and think a lot like me so it's nice to hear different views. So I agree that the different views here are one of the best things about this board.

It's wonderful until election time. Just kidding, I totally agree with you. I also love when you're having a rough time and everyone cocoons you in hugs, good thoughts and prayers.

I've been here for almost 13 years, and I can definitely say I have become more tolerant of the viewpoints of others during that time. I mean, I may still think you are absolutely wrong wrong WRONG, but I am soooooooo much better about allowing you to have your very wrong viewpoint and not necessarily get into an argument about it (if it is controversial, especially).

I agree that this has been a great way to get a better understanding of any given situation. I've learnt a lot about US politics and religion and watched as so many states have gone through the process of legalising (and occasionally repealing) same-sex marriages and goodness knows what else. I definitely think I have a broader view of the world as a direct result of this window into everyone's beliefs.

It is a wonderful window into other people's lives and expectations, not just in the USA. I never venture to post in political threads, but I read them avidly, often with my hair standing on end and my jaw on the floor! I was very uninformed about the US electoral system, but I have a better understanding of it now. I think. Also, the recipes. They are fascinating. The addition of tins of soup to just about everything is intriguing, and something we just do not do over here. Someone from the old pod was kind enough to send me an american cookery book. I glance through it all the time, as it is so very different.

I often open recipe/food threads and then sometimes quietly tiptoe out again because the food combinations, the different names for things and the SOUP, the soup!!! are a world away from what I know and the food I buy. I hadn't realised we were so different in that area until I came here

I get that a lot from digi scrapping forums too. Ain't that the truth! My mom did, as did many in the 60's and 70's. It isn't as widespread as it was when I was growing up.
