My cat is about 7-8 years old. About a year or so, she had breast cancer. They removed the mass. I was told it can come back. She has been pooping in the living room. We were away a couple of weeks ago and she did not poop in l/r at all. We've been home about 9 days and she is pooping in l/r again. Also, tonight for the first time, she pooped upstairs in my office. For about the past 3 years, she has been loosing weight. I'd say she's now about 5 pounds lighter, down to about 9 pounds. She gets 1 can wet food daily- the larger size can. The vet has said to give her two cans a day and to make it the wet kitty food. So we're doing that. They did blood work and found nothing. X-rays and urine tests would be next. They would cost about $360.00. If the cancer has come back, we would not put her through anything. Any thoughts about it all. I'm thinking that the cancer has returned. I just don't think it's behavioral, because she eats fine but is loosing weight. Please weigh in, tell me what you think? Thanks.

I have no idea why she could be doing this. Do animals behave like this as a cry for help so to speak?. It is so hard when our animals are sick. Hope you get some answers soon.

We lost our cat recently to cancer, and until the last week we didn't even know he had it. We just knew something wasn't right, and nothing alarming showed up in the blood tests. It wasn't until they did an ultrasound that they saw it.
Has your cat stopped eating, eating less or vomiting after eating? Is the poop solid or not? All these are indicators. I don't want to alarm you, because I know how very hard it is to deal with this (believe me I've cried buckets in the last few weeks), but the weight loss is alarming if she's eating the same amount as usual. Unfortunately it's really hard to know for sure without the scan, and we spent over $1000 to find out, mostly because ours had no prior history of cancer and we were hoping it was something fixable.
I can't say what I what do in your situation because everyone's situation is different. All I can say is that regardless of the cost the one thing I am glad about is we knew with 100% certainty that we did the right thing by putting our cat to sleep and avoided putting him through any bad pain or stress before it took hold in a bad way.
I'm so sorry you're facing this decision. It's not easy.

No, she has not stopped eating. That's why it's even more puzzling.

Ours didn't stop eating either, but lost 10% of his body weight in 10 days. I know it's expensive but if you can afford it, I'd really recommend a scan. From what I know (and granted I'm no vet or expert), it's one of the only ways they can tell for sure. Doesn't mean it's cancer though - it could be something quite benign and treatable.
If it was just the pooping I'd go with behavioural, but it's the weight loss that I think is more worrisome.

Get the cat scanned to find out if it's cancer, then go from there. I am so sorry.

At first I was going to ask if she could be diabetic, but I see you have had bloodwork done. I have no other advice, but I hope you find out what's going on soon. I know you are worried.

Sounds like possible kidney trouble. Is she constipated? Given her history, I'd get the vet to give her another look. I hope she feels better soon.

Regular bloodwork does not typically include T4 (thyroid) -- that's my 1st thought with eating yet weight loss. Not an expensive thing to try 1st,,and seems most likely...and can be fixed relatively easily (not fixing can lead to serious worse probs, though)

It could be something as innocent as worms. Don't lose hope just yet

My 16 year old cat usually pees or poops outside of the litter box to let me know something is wrong with him physically. It's him telling me "Mom, I'm hurting, get me to the vet". Last time he did this we found out he had kidney disease. This doesn't mean that's what your cat has! It just means that some cats will do this to signal their owners that they are hurting and that something is wrong.
My advice is to get your cat back to the vet for another check.

Are they normal poops? Is she more hungry than usual? Do you know if they checked her thyroid (I assume they would, if you took her in specifically because she was losing weight). Is her heartbeat erratic or abnormally fast?
