I'm so happy Shimelle is doing her Glitter Girl videos again. She is so good at explaining why she does things. I always lean something from her videos. They are really a fantastic resource for good scrap design. Definitely my favorite process videos out there.

I am too. I always enjoyed her videos even when her layouts weren't to my taste and I've picked up a lot of tips and tricks from her over the course of those videos.

I love that she really talks through her layouts with us.
It's not just, "Put this here. Put that there."
It's, "This works here because...."
Love her videos!

I think her layouts look a lot like other YouTubers (very nice, but not always my style), but it is her narration that draws me in. She is logical and consistent when she explains things. I also appreciate that there aren't a million things going on in the background with noise or other distractions.

I agree....I don't have time for most videos but hers are highly enjoyable. I find it funny that although I disagree with her about where she places things a lot of time, I ALWAYS end up having an a-ha moment while I watch. She is gifted as a teacher. In her latest video, she said something about layers being like you just laid down a stack of papers haphazardly on your desk and then that's how she adhered them all together. That clicked in my head and I was like, "That's why I struggle...I'm trying to make them too neat!" Also, sometimes it actually helps me to watch videos by someone who does something I wouldn't do because I think of what I would do and then I feel like making my own page so I can. LOL!

I've been watching lots of the old Glitter Girl episodes lately. I don't scrap in anything like her style. In fact, I basically don't scrap at all these days. But I love the way she puts things together, and they way she explains her thought process, even when I want to yell at the screen and say, "no, don't put that there! now you're going to have to fix a problem you could have avoided!" I guess the best thing I've learned from her is that if you cut things up and put them down, even if you mess up and create problems for yourself, they can be fixed - they actually become design opportunities. I always think she should stop at a certain point, and then she adds a zillion extra embellishments, and sure enough, it does look better when she's done. I don't know if I have enough stuff to do a page like that. Maybe I will after I buy her entire Starshine collection, which I just love!

Yep to all of the above. I love her voice, love her as a teacher, and really appreciate that she includes design principles in her explanations. My pages aren't nearly as embellished as hers, but I still come away with something I want to try from one of her LOs.

She is really incredible. I'm watching the video of her scrapping those two train photos of her son. She chose the papers and I was like "?!" but she always pulls it together! That's why she's one of the "big dogs" of scrapping!

Shimelle I mean, Glitter Girl inspired me to make my first layout in just under a year! (I've made a LO a year for the past 6 years or so, hopefully 2016 will allow me to turn over a new leaf!) I'm not in love with it, but I used some techniques that I've learned from watching youtube videos and that always makes me feel proud of myself. I told the story, which is the most important part.

I love her too! She's very good at explaining why she does something. A lot of video makers instinctively know where to place items but they don't know enough about why it works. I appreciate that Shimelle takes the time to explain it.
Also, I'm loving the mix of old stash she's pulling in! As she starts those pages showing the old stuff I think, "there's no way those are going to come together." And then I'm surprised when she makes it all work!

Another Shimelle fan here. I have a hard time with the current trend of what sometimes looks like random embellishment layers and clusters. And I still lean towards a more simple, old-fashioned, linear style. But I am pushing the envelope a bit after watching her new videos. She is a good teacher and I am enjoying and understanding the design principles she explains while putting her layouts together.
Her little boy is a cutie too.

Based on this thread I watched two of her videos and I liked the tips she gave but not her style. I'm a plain and simple scrapper so how do you apply her tips in a plain and simple layout? Im,going to take them and see if they apply to that style

Im,going to take them and see if they apply to that style You can use the basic design principles she shows you (work in triangles, use odd numbers of things, repeat color to move the eye around the page, divide your page into thirds and place important things at the intersections, use contrast, etc.) and just pare down all the "stuff" she builds into embellishment clusters by using single, larger elements in those places. I too am amazed by how she always manages to pull all of these seemingly unrelated things together into one cohesive whole and makes it work.

I love her and learn so much with each video. For those who don't like her style, simplify it. Use less embellishments, less layers. What I like most about Glitter Girl is she explains all what she is doing and how to make it more embellished or less is best. No rules in scrapbooking! Also love her giggles!!!

I have known many scrappers of various levels, styles and embellishment comfort zones to all get a lot out of her videos. Listen to what she says about why she does things. She is a good instructor and talks clearly and concisely about the WHY behind page design. You will often hear her say things like: "If you like less embellishment you could stop here, or if you want more keep adding" etc. i find one of the best things about Shimelle is you can apply the basic design principles she teaches to ANY style of layout. She even has an older 2Peas series called 4x6 photo love where she puts from 1-(something like) 12 photos on a layout. If you like less embellishment try to find some of her 2 page layout videos she tends to embellish those less. she also has lots of videos that answer specific questions in her Glitter Girl series which could help anyone such as how to pull together kits, how to use specific tools (like stamps) and so on.

Based on this thread I watched two of her videos and I liked the tips she gave but not her style. I'm a plain and simple scrapper so how do you apply her tips in a plain and simple layout? Im,going to take them and see if they apply to that style I love a simple page style and the thing I take from her is her overall design. For example, in one video she recently chose 3 or 4 polka dot papers. I was chuckling 'cause I would never, under any circumstances, ever, ever, ever put more than one polka dot pattern on a page. It's her page so she can do what she likes of course but I think she could have chosen patterns that worked better together but if you took away the patterns on that layout and did the whole thing on a white background, I would have liked it. I liked everything else about it except sometimes she turns embellishments sideways and I personally would never do that but I think if there's something she does that you don't like, ask yourself how you could change just that part to suit your own style better. Her general photo placement and use of embellishments is usually appealing to me. The best thing is that by listening to her explain HER process, I find insight into my own process and likes and dislikes. I don't want to spend time watching someone create something that I already know how to create. That doesn't help me grow. I want to watch someone who thinks a bit differently than me so I can think outside my box.

I want to watch someone who thinks a bit differently than me so I can think outside my box. I think this is a big part of it for me. There are plenty of things that she does that fit with my style but there are just as many that have me thinking "that will never work" and I love seeing how it all comes together in the end, even when I don't particularly like the end product, because it helps me think about why she puts certain things together.
