I have a bite on my face that started yesterday. It's not a flea bite as there aren't fleas where I am. I am not allergic to mosquitoes and they don't bite me. I suspect it is a spider bite. I don't know where or how it happened but there is a bite there for sure.
I put CVS Polysporin on it and will watch it carefully. (I had one last year that got infected and cost about $200 in antibiotics). I have managed to kill as many spiders as I have been able, but this one must have gotten by.
Grrrr!
-------------------------
It's not a zit. I think it's an abscess. I will do hot compresses on it and hopefully that will make it go away. I have Batriban to put on it to make it go away. It's in the exact same place as my spider bite from last winter. It could just be from stress, right? It's not like I haven't had my share of "stressful situations" this winter and all...
Thanks for all your stories.
I will not be posting a photo of it as you will see me and my fat face and I will save everyone the visual. (You're welcome!)

A lot of cellulitis starts out looking like a spider bite. Be careful.

Watch for changing color. Black is very bad.
We have tons and tons of the nasty things, it seems impossible to get rid of them.

Do you know what type of spider it might be? A black widow bite on your face would be really bad, but a brown recluse would be worse. Brown recluse inject something into you that will rot your tissue and will leave a deep depression when it finally heals. We are talking a possible 3 inch wide depression where the bite occured . If it doesn't look better soon you should go see your medico.

I vote for an errant pimple. You've been under stress lately and that will cause outbreaks.

Keep a close watch on other symptoms also. I ended up spending a night in the cardiac unit because of a spider bite.

MRSA will also start out looking like a spider bite. And I recently had shingles and thought it was a spider bite at first. I thought dh had a spider bite too but it was shingles! Dr said most people come in thinking they have a bite

I also had an instance where I thought I had a spider bite on my leg. Turned out it was some sort of infection. I got a big abscess and was quite sick for a while. Just realised that sounds scary, I didn't mean to... Just another person saying keep an eye on it! On the other hand I had a real spider bit on my finger and it went away in 2 days with no treatment

I vote for an errant pimple. You've been under stress lately and that will cause outbreaks. Yes that's what we are going with. It's what I want to believe, anyway. My skin has never in my whole life been so clear. I got pimples in jr high school and high school, and occasionally as an adult, but this is the best it has ever looked. I will just keep putting Polysporin on it and hope that takes it away. I am the biggest drama queen there is. You know those people who have normal lives, who do the same thing day in and day out. They are happy and just have normal lives with everything normal? Yeah I want to be like them. No drama. No crazy. No sick parent. No old dog. No deceased sibling. I just want normal again. There are lots of Peas who have normal lives. They have stress but they cope with it. They roll with the punches and just go about their business day to day. But this stupid thing on my face had better not turn out to be anything!

I'm another one who thought I had a spider bite but actually had shingles. I'd keep a close eye on it, especially if you have any strange symptoms on the opposite side of your body from the bite such as itching, aching, or numbness. Hopefully it is nothing too serious but do keep an eye on it.

Ummm....I need a pic to see for sure but i doubt it is a spider bite. I'm going with cystic acne or abscess.

I work in the ER, and you would not believe how many people come in with a "spider bite." So many that I don't even put that down as their chief complaint, but instead just put "abcess." Because that's what it almost always is. An infection of some kind. Some folks will say they have a boil, or a "risin'" but it all means the same thing.

Wow. Interesting. My dh has 5 big red bumps on his head and face - all on the same side, all different sizes, from 1/4" to 1". I told him that I think he was bit by a spider while sleeping. It makes sense, as he sleeps on his side. They are itchy and painful. He has a dr. appointment tomorrow.
I probably kill 2-3 spiders a year in our house and this week we have killed 2.

I had a brown recluse spider bite me in 1996. It crawled up my shorts while I was gardening, and I felt it bite and squashed it, so we knew what it was. That was on a Saturday, by Monday I was seeing my doctor.
I had antibiotic treatment from June until Nov. At one point the infected site measured 11" across, and was oval shaped. Needless to say, I hate spiders now!
Keep an eye on it and go to the doctor sooner, than later.

I had a spider bite this Summer. The doctor said it resembled shingles. I knew it was a spider bite because I saw the 2 little "fang holes" where the spider bit me. I don't know what type of spider it was but I was weeding a day or two before I noticed my bite and waited a day or two before I went to the doctor. I thought it would get better on its own; it didn't.

I think it's just an abscess and nothing more. It isn't itchy at all. I would say it aches but isn't itchy.
I will lose my @#@@ if it is shingles which I don't think it is. I have already had shingles once and I have begged, pleaded, lied (I said I was 60) and did whatever I could to get the shingles vaccine and so far no pharmacist has believed I am 60 years old. Plus you have to show proof of ID with your government issued health care card and mine says my real age. (The new Shingles vaccine comes out here in 2 years and I will be almost 50 then and can have it at 50 instead of 60!)

If you can, get some oil of oregano. Oreganol P73 is a great brand. Put one drop on 2-3 times a day, making sure not to get it in eyes, nose, etc. It will stink and it may burn a little, but I have had wonderful success getting rid of abscesses (even MRSA) just by doing the oil and hot compresses.
Do hot compresses every hour if possible. And get them as hot as you can stand without burning yourself. I put a wrung-out washcloth in the microwave for 15 seconds.

It's in the exact same place as my spider bite from last winter. Are you sure it's a spider bite? I tend to get cystic acne in the same pore over and over. Usually from a damaged pore that get infected again & again. (((hugs))) I hope you feel better soon.

It is a deep ache though. Polysporin and I will watch it. It's different from a regular pimple like I used to get. It looks bad, too.

Lana We have a Japanese hot water pot that keeps water at 197F at all times. I can put a Q-Tip in a mug out of the dishwasher (it's clean) and dab it every hour. That way I won't burn my hands. That should get rid of it, too. It looks ugly. Stupid @$@#@#@#@#@ thing.
