I know we talked about this before, but I'm not going over to 2Ps to look for old threads, plus they'll be gone soon. We just put new hardwood floors in our kitchen. Most of our house is old hardwood. Bathroom is tile, and entry is durastone. I saw on tv recently they were advertising for I think a shark steam cleaner, that worked on any hardwood, tile, flat surface. Does anyone have one of those?? How do they work? or any other suggestions?! Thanks!

We have all tile in our house. We bought a Bissell Powerfresh Steam Mop, and I swear it's the best thing I've ever bought to clean with. I know it can be used on hardwood, you just have to be careful not to leave it in one place for too long. But I'd definitely look into them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a shark steam mop and really like it. We have tile & laminate wood and it does well on both. It is much easier to use than a regular mop and really gets the dirt up.
I have noticed even though you onky use water in it, the first few times I use it on a floor, the floor "sounds" sticky afterwards. It isnt sticky, but shoes on it sound that way. I googled it and it seems that it is breaking down past chemical cleaners that were on the floor and will stop after a few times. It definitely doesnt leave a residue.

I like cleaning with steam and I like my Shark but it leaves water streaks (when it dries) on the tile and the hardwood. I've had several and they've all blown up (like steam comes shooting out of them) within about a year. They're cheap enough that I don't mind replacing it every year or so but that might not sit well with others.

Craftchick, do you use distilled water?
Have you guys seen one..I think I saw it on tv. Where it vacuums, and you can then steam, all in one mop?

no just tap water Cindy. I wonder if distilled wouldn't leave streaks?

I've been reading lots of reviews tonight, and they do mention using distilled water, and to make the machine last longer. No mineral build up.

I borrowed my bf's shark and never gave it back. I love that thing. I will be so sad when it dies. It's about 2 years old and I use it twice monthly. I've only used tap water in it...I also add a little vinegar. It does leave streaks on the tile, but I don't care. The floor is soooo freaking clean!

I know in mine, it specifies that only distilled water should be used, and putting anything else in the tank, including any kind of cleaner, can void the warranty. I've never noticed any streaks, but definitely noticed that the floors are clean! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just bought a Shark steam cleaner. You are supposed to only use distilled water in that machine. I was all excited to use it and I read that and had an argument with myself as to whether or not one time would be okay. And maybe if I used bottled water? Then I realized how lazy I was being because I can buy distilled water about a block from my house. Plus, I really like drinking my bottled water (our water in this area is horrible. I have to filter it through the Britta even to cook because it tastes that nasty)
I've only used it once so far, just last week. But I really like how clean my floors felt. I bought mine at Costco and they had two different types of Shark steam cleaners. I can't recall at the moment what made me choose the one I did, but I'm happy with it so far.

I bought a Shark steam mop yesterday at Macy's for 49.00. It's the basic model, because that's what I had prior. I have wood floors in the den, marble in the foyer and limestone in my bedroom. I vacuumed them first then started steaming. My floors are squeaky clean and it took less than 30 min.
I don't use distiller water, but did run vinegar thru the old one every few uses. Mine doesn't streak, but make sure the pads you use are well rinsed in the washer. They now come with disposable pads so I'll need to buy more of the old pads on Amazon. Although I did was the disposable ones they probably won't last that long.

I don't know if you are supposed to, but it works fine for me. It doesnt release that much water onto the floor, regular mopping or even spray and mop would get them way wetter. As someone else said though, don't leave it in one spot too long, like if you stop to add more water. I make sure to rest it on tile, not wood.

For laminate flooring, you may want to check the mfg's warranty. DD put Pergo in her last house and said using a steam cleaner would void the warranty.

Eh, that enjo system doesn't look any better then a Swiffer? does it? Believe me, it is a million times better. The cloths are heavy duty, and do a superb job.

Check with the cleaning instructions of your floor manufacturers. I have hardwood flooring on my first floor and laminate on the 2nd floor. Both are specific that steam cleaning will ruin the finish.

I don't even know what it is. Wonder if DH saved a box? It's real hardwood, and the rest of our house is super old, close to 100 yrs. So I'm thinking it needs a good steaming. ha

I sweep and then do the little floor vacuum and then I use my Bissel Powerfresh steam mop. And I only use distilled water in it. I had a shark I liked but it didn't even last a year and I borrowed the newer version from my neighbor and found it way too bulky and hard to use. It also didn't fit well around the toilets- I like to make sure I steam there to kill bacteria.
