I just moved and I have a huge area for scrapping with a TON of stuff. I wanted to get some cubes to add to ones that I got a few years ago? Does Michaels still sell them? Do you know of anything similar if they don't? Any storage/ organization tips for a WHOLE LOT of stuff would be great!

Have you ever considered the Expedit from Ikea? I have the 5x5 and it holds a ton of supplies in addition to looking cool in my scraproom.

It looks like Expedit is discontinued BUT there's a system called Kellax that has a workstation and different shelving configurations that look perfect. Thank you so much for the idea!

I bought one of them from Hobby Lobby and I think they are the same size as the Michael's cubes. They are pretty small for holding scrapping stuff. I was looking for something that would be big enough to hold Iris boxes and neither of those were. They probably would hold 12x12 stuff in those flexible plastic pouches, but nothing larger than maybe 14" high or wide. I looked at every possible available option out there (other than a plastic Iris cart which I specifically *didn't* want), and NONE of them would fit the organizers I have my stuff in. The old cubes my island is made of are from Crop In Style and they measure almost 16" inside dimensions, but you can't get those anymore. I ended up having a custom shelf built to fit inside my closet that would hold the variety of bins and totes I use to sort and organize my stuff. My advice is to look at what you're using to organize your stuff, especially paper and albums, and then look for something that will fit what you need to store.

I have the Expedit as well, now the Kellax. The Expedit is great because I can store 15x15 pads of cardstock upright, like books.

I have this one from Costco: Bayside Room Divider. It has large cubbies like the IKEA Kallax. They have one similar but larger in the stores. It's tall with cupboards or drawers on the bottom. I didn't see it on the website.

I also have the IKEA Alex with five drawers linkI love it for all my punches and tools. I use the top drawer for all my adhesives and things I grab frequently, but don't want on my work top. My work table is a cheap dining table from IKEA, too.

Check Walmart, too! I saw they have lots of square options that would hold 12x12 materials.

All the above I have the recollections cubes...but now that you mention it I haven't seen them at the store in the past few months! I like that I can arrange them to my specifications, and plan to buy a table top and put it on top of the cubes as "legs" in the near future. However, the ikea expedit/kellax cubes are really nice and I have those too. You might consider the 2x2 version if you want arrangement flexibility. Remember that the door inserts eat up a LOT of space in the interior! I also have the Alex 5 drawer (wide) unit and I can't sing it's praises enough

I see them all the time at my local Michael's. I think they are on sale this week too. I need a few more since I rearranged my room a bit. Some are even available online.

Michael'a still sells the cubes, but i find them to be a bit small, and on the pricey side , even with sales, when there are other options out there. Walmart has the better homes and gardens brand cube shelving, which is a reasonable alternative, and the cube size is bigger if you are looking for open cubes.

I have both Jetmax and Hobby Lobby cubes AND Expedits (Kallax are the same inner dimensions but smaller in total size because of thinner edges.) I would recomend the Kallax too. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest on how to "hack" them to make desks and I've even seen one where a woman put in shelf dividers to make cool paper storage on her Expedit. I use my Expedit to store albums, paper (in the new shorter Cropper Hoppers and Container Store bins) and random stuff in DVD boxes from IKEA (they fit beautifully). As an aside, I think the old school Jetmax cubes were well made but the HL and Recollections ones don't seem as durable. ETA: Here is the link for the paper storage hack. Love the look. Wow. These are some great ideas! I feel so liberated with all of this new space. I ALMOST want to put photos up of the current state of my scrap supplies but it's embarrassing, LOL. I didn't even know how much stuff I had until 60% of my unboxing in my new place was scrap related. And even in some of my boxes of clothes I found random iris cases full of paper. Clearly I have a problem.

I think the cubes at mikes is a thing of the past. Ours still has them. Once in a while they sell out and you have to wait a while to have them come back. I asked an associate this summer and he said they were discontinued but to come back in a few weeks because he thought that might be repackaged but the same cube. They were. We have three stores in town and one store is really good about keeping them in stock. I bought 8 of them this summer.

ETA: Here is the link for the paper storage hack. Love the look. (The blog is here: Ikea Expedit Scrap Room) I did basically the same thing with tall IKEA kitchen cabinets, and they already had the holes for the shelves pre drilled which was a HUGE plus. Hundreds and hundreds of shelf pegs later (and a bit of arm twisting to get DH to help me cut the plywood for the shelves) , and my paper looks kind of like that too. Only my shelf is white.

I have 9 Jetmax cubes that I bought so long ago, I didn't even know about the Expedit. And I also have a the 4 cube Expedit - two of which are drawers. The other two compartments hold albums. I have attached an Ikea desktop to the wall at one end and the rest of it sits on the Expedit. It's a little taller so I like that I can stand at that table. I also have two 5 drawer Alex units that I simply could not live without! I have considered replacing my Jetmax cubes with a larger Expedit (8 cube version) for years but I'm worried I will miss the configuration of the drawers that I have with the Jetmax cubes. So if you could only have one, an Expedit/Kellax or the cubes, what would you choose? And the reason I'm asking is because I really like the "look" of the Kellax so much more than the cubes. It's neater but I don't want to give up the functionality I get from the cubes...

I just looked at the Alex drawers. Something else to add to my list. So I think I'm going to end up getting one Kallax wall uint, the Kallax work station that has another set of cubes with a table attachment and one set of Alex drawers (I'm thinking the tall one). If those three things don't take care of my storage needs I'm getting rid of some of my stash!

Don't forget to check Home Depot. We just bought a Martha Stewart 9-cube organizer for just general "stuff" in one of our bedrooms. Went together with no problems for us (we are senior citizens). Even found out we don't have enough "stuff" to fill up all 9 fabric drawers that I bought.

To me the drawers/shelf options are more functional than the few options that are available for the kallax. I use my cubes as the base of my table so that makes a difference to me too.

Michaels sells the Recollections brand of Jetmax cubes which may or may not be of the same quality. The only other place that I know of that sells the full set of actual Jetmax cubes is go-organize.com. HTH.

I like my cubes because of the different options with them. I have some with the small four drawers, the three drawer, and the divided inserts. I don't have an Ikea so I might not be aware of the options the Kallax has, but I know I wouldn't like just having the larger openings in the cubbies.

I didn't see it on the website. I have this also--but know it's really heavy!! I had to take it out of the box and carry it into the house one piece at a time. I also have the BHG version from Walmart and it was much less expensive! The only thing to know about the Walmart one is that it's not the same dimensions both ways. My albums fit fine if the shelf is horizontal, but if I wanted to put it vertically, the cubes are just a bit smaller and they don't fit. Go with the Kallax if you can get it!!! Unfortunately, my IKEA is 2.5 hours away. I also have both some JetMax and Recollections cubes and the JetMax are better quality. Mine don't get heavy duty use, though, so the Recollections is doing ok. If you were wanting to build a desk/work surface out of them, I'd say go with JetMax--assuming that they are of the same quality as the ones I bought 7 years ago, but they may have changed.
