I purchased a print and cut design from the Silhouette store. When I placed in on the design mat, it has a LOT of white space around the cut line. The white space imported to the design mat and seems to be "attached" to the design (it was a House of 3 postcard, stamps and flourishes design)-- it is the field on which the design is sitting, not white space incorporated as part of the design.
Can I get rid of the extra field background? How? It would help create rather a lot of space for more or other designs on the page.

Is the box part of the design or does it have separate lines from the design? Try ungrouping the entire thing and deleting the box.
If that doesn't work, you can trace the entire design and work from there. Check out the Tracing without tears series on Youtube.

Thank you. No -- the white field on which the design sits doesn't have any lines ... it just has a "presence". I duplicated the design (planning to cut more than one), but when I was trying to place the second design, nudging it into the "white field" of the original obscured the duplicate -- the second design disappeared "under" the white background field of the original, or the while background field of the second "overlapped" the original and obscured the design. I'll look into erase and see if that works -- but what I'm trying to erase isn't part of the design.

Is it this one? There isn't a ton of white space around it, but you might be able to do an internal offset of the cut line. Or is it a different design?

It is that design. Someone on a FB group told me about trace, some else, trace and detach -- and I got the design off the white background. Thank you -- you are right -- it isn't a ton of white space, but once it was removed I was able to easily get 3 of the designs spaced on to an 8.5x11 field -- when I had only been able to get 2 on the same size sheet previously. So that is a pretty significant space saver!

Glad you got it! You can also resize the design if you ever need just a little more space.
