I had to check it out. The Ms I frequent most has aisles of party goods, when did that happen? And who is using it? I didn't spend a lot of time but didn't notice anything clever or unique components.
MS has a 4-5' section and much of it was clearanced.
I also went to HL and noticed they had spiced up the soap, jewelry (resin) stain glass section. It looked like an old-school arts and crafts store. That was nice.

To continue oaksong 's train of thought, what happens when Recollections, American Crafts, etc. put all the independent manu's out of business? Who do they get product ideas from then? Do these big companies then hire, say, MME's designers to come work for them? Are the smaller manufacturers shooting themselves in the foot (feet?) by letting all their stuff be re-purposed by Recollections? To stay in business now, are they putting themselves out of business later? I've designed a couple of paper lines for manufacturers, which were then rebranded and sold as Recollections. The royalty rate is significantly lower for Recollections than from the original manufacturer, so I can't see a benefit to a designer leaving a manufacturer for Recollections, personally. Maybe they pay the designer more after the middleman is eliminated?

These relationships are probably why the Hot Buy paper pads from big brands/names under the American Crafts umbrella are showing up there. I, for one, love the Hot Buy paper pads. Ours are 70% off now, and with the additional 20% off sale items last week, I cleaned up!

Making Memories needs to make a come back.
That said I'm hoping to score some Martha Stewart stuff this week if there is anything left.

Well, I finally made it to M's. Most of the MS stuff was on clearance.
I couldn't resist picking up the 3-in-1 mariposa butterfly punch for $3.99, plus 20% off all regular & sales priced items. Total steal.

I finally made it to a M's on Friday. There was a section of punches left and nothing else. I got an owl punch that embosses. Since I have a diecut machine, I refrained by buying anything else.

The same is true with Hobby Lobby and their Paper Studio line. It's taking over the whole paper crafting department. These companies must go to the CHA shows, find the things they like from the original manufacturers and take it to their Chinese manufacturers who are more than happy to knock off anyone else's stuff. Once they do, they push the original manufacturers out. It's pretty sad. I have to drive over an hour to see any of the regular scrap products in real life, and over an hour and a half to see anything from the companies I really like and want to buy (Doodlebug, Simple Stories, Bella Blvd, etc.). I live in a major metro area of over a million people and we have no real scrap stores left. This is me too I can't stand what Michaels has become. I don't even look at their scrap section anymore. I just go there to look at their books and coloring books. My closest LSS is now an hour away too. And I love in a big metro area too (Sacramento) Where we used have 10 LSS's. Greed has caused this corruption. Very sad

I checked out our Michaels. Still lots of MS punches available. I think most were 50% off, but I picked up a cut and fold punch that makes layered pinwheels. The original price was $19.98 and it was clearanced for $6.99. I then had a 20% coupon. Nice!

I got two sequins / glitter (they are calling it glitter) sets from Martha, the tiny stars and hearts and hexagon sets . All kinds of colours. I will not be needing sequins ever again.
