All the best to you. I'm half way thru year 20 in education and I'm hanging on for retirement in 8 years. It can be a rough business. Hopefully you get out!

I hope you get the chance to use your talents to reach a wider audience, especially since you were having some challenges (not of your own making) in the classroom!! fingers crossed, and good thoughts coming your way!!

Fingers crossed! I can understand wanting to get out of the classroom. I often feel like I'm on a rollercoaster: one class leaves me feeling incompetent, irrelevant and pointless as Sisyphus; the next leaves me feeling like energized, high as a kite, and like there's no more important work on earth than what I'm doing. Obviously, I live for the latter. Fortunately, my colleagues are top-drawer, and we support each other though the tough times. On those bad days, I do wonder what it would be like to be back in the 9-5 world...

On those bad days, I do wonder what it would be like to be back in the 9-5 world... I know. I have some trepidation about the move - of course I had a great day today and felt like teaching was not so bad after all. But I'm truly in a toxic environment with some crazy people. It's really time for me to move on if I can. I miss my old colleagues. We truly had a team there. But I just couldn't do K-2 anymore. The good news is, if I get this job, I'll still get to spend a lot of time in area classrooms, doing pre- and post-teaching for "embedded" artists in the schools, as well as program monitoring and assessment.

The arts organization would be incredibly fortunate to have someone like you who really - I mean REALLY - knows what happens in a classroom. Hope you get the gig!!!
