With all the negatives out there, I just love when you see a community come together! We had an unusual heavy snowfall last night (I think we're at 18+ inches). My neighbor had surgery last week and her husband went out of town yesterday. She has a long, long driveway that typically her husband takes care of and I knew she shouldn't be out there after her surgery. My husband headed over to plow - and no fewer than 2 other neighbors saw him and figured she needed help and just jumped right in to help. Love it! Off to brew some hot chocolate and enjoy the rest of our snow day!

That's terrific! It's nice when neighbors, or people in general, come together to help someone else in need.

When my family went through struggles.....my daughter passing and then my husbands brain tumor surgery.....our neighborhood completely kicked in. My yard was taken care of, my garbage cans put out and brought back in and they even placed a cooler on our porch. There was a website started that had a meal rotation added, and friends and neighbors would sign on to bring meals. They would then place the meal in the cooler and leave a note on the door to "show a delivery". I have never in my life been so humbled by the love of our community. It was beautiful.
Thank you for starting a positive thread about neighbors. It is great to still see people wanting to make life better for others....enjoy that cocoa!

I have had some good neighbors. When I was married, our neighbor worked early in the morning so he was home at about 1pm. He would mow our lawn, rake our leaves and snow blow in the winter our driveway approach and sidewalk. This was great for me because I did not have to bug XH to do it (he certainly wouldn't do it on his own!). In our neighborhood now, we have neighbors who will go down the sidewalk and snow blow. My SO does this, too. It makes living next to someone nice.

Last winter was a snowy one in Ohio, and my dad was hospitalized in January and February for a brain tumor and surgery, treatment, etc. The hospital was an hour away, so my mom was going back and forth and was totally exhausted. Their neighbors kept their sidewalks and (long) driveway shoveled and plowed the whole time. It was so kind! There are many, many people with good hearts out there.

I am also blessed with wonderful neighbors.
I had eye surgery and my neighbor not only shoveled three times, she brought over cookies, too.
We have a group that have provided more meals than I can count between the group of us. Whenever someone is ill or has surgery, we all pitch in.

I love to hear these stories. Too often we hear the negatives. I agree with the previous posters, there are lots and lots of good hearted people!

I love hearing these stories! I live in the country, if a farmer us having troubles all the neighbor farmers will pitch in to help. It is awesome when you see 3-4 combines out in the fields.

Makes my heart happy too to hear that there are good hearted souls in the world. I don't know any of our neighbors. I mean I know them by face in passing and waving but we haven't really met any of them.

Aren't great neighbors wonderful! Several years ago our neighbor went to Peru for a month with her young sons. We were expecting a big snow and the husband was at work. A few of us sahms went over and shoveled his driveway so it would be ready for him to park when he got home from work. We ended up getting close to a foot, so he was so happy! He baked us chocolate chip cookies to thank us!
We only have one elderly neighbor, and the little girls that live next door to her are always out shoveling her driveway in the winter!

Thank you for starting a positive thread about neighbors. It is great to still see people wanting to make life better for others. We too have lovely neighbors. Our whole neighborhood only numbers 19 houses -- a mix of the original owners and those of us who have moved in over the years. We have gatherings, picnics, and drop-ins a few times per year. It's wonderful to know all my neighbors. The ones on either side of us are both older couples and so sweet. We all take each other little treats all the time. A funny story --- when we moved in, we got a notice about the neighborhood "dues" to cover "Christmas lights and funeral meat." What? Ummm... Haha. Turns out the neighborhood provides a cold cut plate or baked ham in the event of a death in anyone's family. In other words... funeral meat. My husband and I still chuckle over that.

We've been so lucky with having great neighbors, and we do our part too. We all look out for each other.
