I have a love-hate relationship with on-line scrap shopping. I love the convenience of shopping in my pajamas from home. I hate how quickly some things go out of stock. Some things I wanted were gone in less than a week. I have been waiting to place an order hoping for free shipping and watched several items become out of stock. Oh well, saved some money. I also hate not being able to really see the product. Love, love when websites have the zoom feature so you can really see the design on patterned paper. I hate when they just show a corner of the B side of a paper instead of the whole sheet. Sometimes I buy a paper for the B side. Now all I have to do is wait for my box to arrive. Scrappy mail is the best mail.

I'm right there with you!! I have a problem buying scrappy stuff if I haven't seen them in person!! I'm much more of a tactile shopper, I need to see and feel things in person before deciding if I want it. And sometimes I see things online and don't like them, or do like them, and then see them in person and feel completely different about it!!
I've been forced into becoming an online shopper because of the LSS closing in our town and I hate it! I will drive 2 hours to get to a store so I can shop and peruse at my leisure.

There is a special thrill to buying paper in person. And, once in a while, when I buy online I realize if I had seen the paper in person, I would not have purchased it. But, I do love coming home from work to a big box of scrapping goodies

That's why I wish on-line stores would do a better job of showing their products. I especially hate diecut packs that they just show the packaging. I want to see more than the one on top!

I agree...totally love-hate for me, too! And ya know, I find that I tend to just not buy much lately, especially when I can't get everything I'm looking for in one place or when I've spent $$ on items I wouldn't have bought if I saw them in person. I feel like I waste a lot more time online searching then I ever did browsing in my LSS...or maybe it was because the time browsing was more fun.
Scrappy mail is the best, though! That's why I don't think I'll ever be able to completely give up my scrappy subs.
Enjoy your goodies!

I especially hate diecut packs that they just show the packaging. I want to see more than the one on top! This is one of my pet peeves. I'm sure there are plenty of great die cut and wood veneer packs that I've passed on because I didn't love the one on the top of the pack. I also have a love hate relationship. I love getting the happy mail and my usual online store wraps their orders in tissue paper and includes a Freddo frog or some other sweet treat in with the orders so the orders always feel just that little bit more exciting. I have an LSS but they are not great at ordering the latest and greatest or they'll get just the papers and no embellishments. I try to support them but it's challenging when I see so many pretty things online but struggle to buy them locally.

I only buy scrapbook supplies that I know exactly what they are because I've seen them in person first.
I'll buy WRMK albums online because I know exactly what to expect. Same goes with adhesives and page protectors (from brands I already have & trust).
I won't buy paper. I don't have the budget to be disappointed, and it's too common for the colors to be off between their photo & my computer. Or the photo of product to be too small or unclear for me to have a great idea of what exactly it looks like.

If I didn't buy scrapbook supplies on line, I wouldn't buy anything. While my wallet would say "Yay!!", my creative side which is inspired by new items would be sad. I have no LSS anymore. I will say that buying online limits what I buy. I miss seeing the colors of lines in person. And many times online, I can't tell if the patterned paper has white or cream in it. I only like white. Like cannmom, I bypass things like die cut packs where I can't see what I'm buying.

Sometimes if I am on the fence about something like an embellishment pack, I'll check the manufacturer's site to see if there is a better photo that shows what is in the package.

This is exactly my situation. I have no choice. If I want scrapbook items, I shop on-line. Unless I want to only buy what I can find at Tuesday Morning or Michael's. Neither of those local stores have much to pick from here. So, on-line shopping it is.

My shopping choices are J's, M's, or a local craft chain that carries some of the bigger companies but it's hit or miss whether they will stock paper and the embellishments that go with it. I do most of my shopping that is not online at Tuesday Morning.
I think my shopping habits would be different if I had a LSS... I tend to analyze my online orders to death trying to get the best deal and low shipping, and in a real store I pick up this and some of that and oh that looks pretty and I am willing to pay a little more because I'm in an actual store.

Sometimes if I am on the fence about something like an embellishment pack, I'll check the manufacturer's site to see if there is a better photo that shows what is in the package. Most of the time, there is not. The online stores usually get the images from the manufacturer, unless they take pics of their own, and a lot of times, the manufacturer's images are digital. That's why you may only see the top diecut, or just one image of a paper with the corner showing. What you are seeing in an online store, is the image that is shown in the catalog. There is no time for a manufacturer to take actual product pics of each individual item in a release.

There are so many lines that are gorgeous in person, and just don't photograph that well. Just this week I pulled Amy Tangerine's Stitches for a customer and it was so pretty it made me put aside a set for myself, but the photos never attracted my attention too much (paper comes in plastic so sometimes we don't really "see" it until we open it to pull for someone's order). This collection should already have sold out in my store. There are so many like that. Many times when unpacking an order I have thought "Oh, if the girls could see this....". Unfortunately big box stores have taken over and just made it impossible for small stores to compete. Sometimes I would buy at big box stores because their price was CHEAPER than I could buy wholesale. I mean really .... that is ridiculous!
Videos are a great way to try and get a better feel for a paper line. It also gives a feel for size. I hate it when you expect embellishments to be a certain size and they arrive either too big or too small. LOL

If I didn't buy online, I basically wouldn't have anything. The only physical store near me is a big box (Spotlight) that doesn't have a great range. The 2 former LSS nearby are online only.

Yes!!!!! Only people like us can understand that. haha!
Lately I buy only things that I've seen someone show in a video. I feel like I get a better idea of what it really looks like.

It's so gorgeous in person. My LSS just went out of business, and the only way I can get the new lines are online, or TM or a box store. But the box stores aren't selling any of the major lines anymore. Especially M's is pretty much carrying their own line and I don't like it. It takes me a lot longer to shop online because I don't know all the lines very well. I've had to do a lot of research. I've always been able to go down the street and see what was new without having to memorize designer and line names. I've been watching a lot of videos lately to figure out what's what.

I am another frustrated by fast sell-outs. It's always the embellies... I had loaded up my cart with Maggie Holmes "Bloom" and the new Shimelle and Amy Tan... but didn't check out that evening (I was trying to pare stuff out of the cart to cut back a bit!) then the next day about 8 of my "must have" items were out of stock, making the whole order pointless for me.
Ah well, saved me money.
Is anyone else hoping that Michael's might get the new Maggie HOlmes/Shimelle/Amy Tan lines in the paper pads? They have the Crate Paper Valentines line that is current... It's just then you can't get the embellies!

We are lucky to still have a LSS. Sadly, closer to Jac than to me, but still there when I get into town. And the owner knows what I like and will set aside new arrivals for me so they don't all sell out before I get there. She has also done a few pre orders for me, so that is also nice.
I agree that shopping on line is a gamble. I will often open a box with great anticipation, then see what is inside and wonder where my head was at when I clicked "Add to Cart"!

I am so happy we still have a LSS. I have trouble buying paper online. I really need to see it in person.
