Anyone with cats knows what a struggle it is to keep litter swept vacuumed constantly. My cat has a knack of shaking the litter off his paws in a particularly messy way and it skeeves me out if I ever get any on my barefeet! Soooo, after perusing the internet, I decided to make my cat his own little private bath. I wanted something that would look decent and blend with the rest of my furniture. I bought the cabinet from Walmart.com (made by Sauder), a new litter box with no top, and a cat door. It took a bit of training to get Paul to go through the door which including crying (me), hissing (him), and bribery, but he figured out where to go finally. I love that all the litter is contained inside the cabinet and not on the floor anymore! I still need to put a little stick on light in there and get a box of charcoal or baking soda, but I really like the way it turned out.

Awesome! I am imagining you covered with band-aids from trying to "persuade" your kitty to go in there.

Cool idea! We have a garage so we put a cat door in our kitchen door that leads out to the garage. I put the litter box on the far side of the garage and we have a rug before you enter the kitchen. Somehow those cats still track litter inside the house.

So what were your training methods? It looks great but I don't think I'd ever get one of my two to use it. And he's the one that tracks litter everywhere.

Oh my gosh that is amazing! I love the idea of them not being able to kick the litter all around the area plus it is great looking.
I bet you could sell those without any doubt!

Very, very creative! I love it. This is something that would definitely be a great idea, except I had a cat that like to perch himself on the edges of the box (I guess he didn't like to step in the litter either!) and the pee would end up outside the box. He was my struggle. So something like this would not work, unless it was all plastic! But for nice clean cats, perfect.

To anyone having a problem with litter being tracked: We have our 2 litter boxes in the basement (2 cats) and it would still end up getting tracked through the kitchen and into the living room.
I finally switched to crystal cat litter. What a difference. For one thing, it's way lighter, so easier for me to carry up and down the stairs, and other than the occassional crystal, I see no tracking, and the cats don't get it stuck on them either. It is dust free as well.
Might be worth a try for some of you
(it is a little more pricey, but I think it lasts longer)

OMG AWESOME!!!! I might try this because I hate the litter everywhere. I tried to move the box to the bathtub, but the freaking cat just peed where the box was.

We put a cat door in and tried to move the cat box to our garage. Our cat peed on the floor in front of the cat box and pooped on my kids beds. We put the cat box back where we found it and dealt with it until his death. Cat-1 Me-0

I have a covered box, so they are used to going inside, but they still kick and track litter everywhere!
This is quite ingenious, actually. Where in your home is it, if you don't mind sharing?

So what were your training methods? It looks great but I don't think I'd ever get one of my two to use it. And he's the one that tracks litter everywhere. I put him in the cabinet through the big doors and just sort of poked at the cat flap. After a couple of minutes, he figured out how to get out. Getting him to go in was a little trickier. I had to pin the flap up, and lure him in with lunch meat. He eventually got the hang of it. I'm going to leave the flap pinned up for a little bit longer. I'm at work all day, so i wanted to wait until the weekend when I can keep an eye on him.

My living and dining are basically one big space. This is located in the space in between. I actually ate about 5 feet away from it last night. Didn't smell a thing! I do keep a litter genie right next to it, so I do scoop pretty often though.

We haven't had a cat in about 10 years. I just bought a top-entry litter box because my Maltese thought the little box was a snack buffet. Yuk!!

You put it in the box, it seals it off, and when it's full, you just tie it off and stick it in the trash. My trash people require pet waste to be double-bagged, so that was the main reason for me to get it. But it really does cut down the smell.

for the poster above that mentioned making and selling these you can buy such things.. I took a rubbermaid container and cut a hole in the side of it for a litter box, cost me less than $6 whereas a covered litterbox runs around $20 and since I was able to cut the hole where I wanted it I was able to determine how deep it is--so litter doesnt get kicked out,it does get tracked out, I put a rug under it so that it sticks out from under where the hole is cut so that helps. I figure some tracked litter is probably bound to happen. anyway. it isnt beautiful,I have a *rubbermaid* container sitting by the trash can in the kitchen, but its instead of a litter box so I'll take it. and its super easy to open and sift and clean etc..
