Hi, I posted a few weeks ago on the scrapping board. Short story, took a LONG break and am starting again. I'm considering a mix of PL and regular scrapping. I have years of photos to do and am thinking of using PL for them. VERY simply, maybe even mostly just pages of pictures with one section of journaling on each page, no embellishments etc.
We also just took a 2.5 week vacation that included WDW, Hilton Head, the Biltmore estate etc. So I want to do this one first while everything is fresh. I'm also thinking of PL for this one. However I really do not like the kits. I like the idea, the albums, page protectors etc. But the kits don't do anything for me. I've never liked kits for scrapbooking. I want to pick out my own colors, embellishments etc. I like very simple patterns, don't like phrases on things generally and most importantly like to pull colors from my photos etc. And a kit might work color wise for some of our vacation photos but not all. So I'd like to make my own cardstock inserts etc. Does anyone do it this way? I saw the WRMK 3x4 card punch at Michael's that looks like it would be handy for this. I guess for 4x6 I'd just have to use my paper trimmer. Anyway any advice or tips on doing it this way would be appreciated.

Iluvpink, I'm in the same boat after not scrapping for about 8 years, but I still have all my stuff- a lot of it. PL kits are cute, but I can't justify buying much more. Actually, it's like I HAVE bought new supplies, 'cause I can't remember what I have! Been going through and reorganizing, and I'm like, wow, I don't remember THIS! Well, I did cave on washi tape. I had none and Walmart has the cutest little rolls for $1. I'm making my own cards out of cardstock, using what I have, keeping it fairly simple - and I like it! It's fun to be scrapping again.
Anniefb, thanks for the inspiration, your PL cards are gorgeous!

Thanks Annie! That's just the feedback I was looking for. And I'm going through your blog now, I love your stuff!
I just got back from the scrapbook store and Michaels. I bought the PL pages and I did buy one package of themed cards. I know they will work well for some pictures I have from Animal Kingdom at Disney and DD wants to make a small album and will probably use some too. But in general I think I will make my own.
Ok, off to look at your blog again, thanks so much!

Purplebee, glad to know I'm not the only one who stopped scrapping for SO long and is starting again. I still have my bags/organizers, cutting tools, most of my punches and some cardstock. But I gave away or let dd use for school/art projects, most of of embellishments, patterned paper, adhesives etc. So those were gone. She also used my pens and let some dry out and I cannot find a few of my smaller punches. I need to have her search her room...

That is exactly how I am easing myself back into scrapping. I went to a scrapbook weekend in March. I bought a variety of PL page protectors and took my 12x12 page protectors. I mixed it up and got a lot done. Some were simply put in the pictures with cardstock in some pockets and others were full layouts. It was freeing to give myself permission to just put some pictures into the pockets with very little embellishments. Congratulations on making your way back to scrapping. It feels good.

I haven't bought any kits yet. I have way too much paper in my stash to use. And, I'm loving using my own stash. My favorite method is to use double-sided paper and make my own version of a kit. I also use the back (white) side of old patterned papers in my stash to print a grid on, so I make my own journaling cards. This works out great because I can make them any size I want and even cut them into a variety of shapes. Incomptech Graph PaperA few weeks ago, I bought the Becky Higgin's steel dies and like them far more than I expected to. Now, I am going through my stash even more (which makes me very happy ).
