On the fence. I am sick of buying $20 friskar cutters (and other brands of similar style) that end up cutting crooked because the track bows. I've been eyeing the Cutterpillar and We bought DH 3 Le Creuset pans for Valentines last night so he told me to order the Cutterpillar as my gift but I am having a hard time pulling the trigger. I know I have spent well over the cost of a Cutterpillar is cut rate cutters over the years and will continue to do so but still struggling.
Those who have one, are they worth it?
Is there a cheaper alternative? (I'm loving the idea of the light but may sacrifice if there is a great quality/ lower priced alternative).

I have the Cutterpillar Crop and love it. It only cuts crooked if I don't hold the paper flush. Love having the light too. It's definitely less expensive compared to the regular Cutterpillar.

While originally I was eyeing the pro I am swinging towards the crop now because I only crop away from home anymore and I think I'd appreciate the portability more.

I don't have a Cutterpillar. However I did look into and consider them when I was researching trimmers. However, I prefer a full 12x12 base, not just a swing out piece. But I don't have a lot of room on my desk for a full 12x12 footprint.
I got the best of both worlds with the Fiskars ProCision and LOVE it. It its pretty big, but it folds in half for storage and travel. And it has a self-sharpening blade. It is pricey at $120.

Would this be good for cropping away from home? Can you easily see where the cut will be?

tduby1 It folds in half, and I do take it with me when I go card making away from home (a few times per year). It's heavy, but also heavy-duty. If you have a M's or Joanne's nearby you can go check it out. My M's let me cut a piece of paper to test it out. Of course I had to purchase the paper first!

OK, I just went in and checked and folded it's 18x9. It might be too big if you go a lot or share a table. But it cuts really, really good.

I was at the DSS (distant scrapbook store) this summer and she had a Cutterpillar. She had me try it and see how I liked it. I was impressed. It had the light and she said she paid over $100 Canadian for it. She said it was fabulous. I have a Genesis and don't need another trimmer, but I did like this a LOT!

I have the Cutterpillar Pro and Crop. Love them both. I don't usually go to crops but if I did, I would take the smaller one.

I have the first generation of Cutterpillar and love it. I didn't know they came out with a smaller one, but the one I have is the larger Pro and I personally would take it to crops, but honestly it is probably a little big, especially if you're concerned with space. I've had it since early 2011.

Had the Cutterpillar Pro. It didn't cut straight. So it was one of the 11 paper trimmers I purged.
I'll stick with my Fiskars Procision.

Well if you change your mind and you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, I saw the cutterpillar there (coupon). Sorry can't remember what version it was, or the price because I already have a Genesis, so I didn't look.

I have the cutter pillar pro for home and love it! In your opinion, would it be too unwieldy to crop away from home with? The pro is a full size cutter, not heavy but it dies take a lot of table space.... When I am cropping, I don't normally have that much space

I love mine. I have gone through so many different cutters and was tired of the slightly off cuts I was getting. I have the pro size, and love the 12x12 table, the light is wonderful, and the blade cuts every time - even through 3 heavy sheets of card stock.
It will feather the cut sometimes, but I think that because I don't use enough force to keep the blade tight to the rail.
I did use a sharpie to mark the measurements on the sides of the table. There is one set of measurements at the top (all in the same color) and it's hard to distinguish the details so I marked it up in color markers.
Bought mine from JoAnne's on sale for $70 about 6 months ago. I saw it was selling for $120 everywhere else so I bought it. That is the only thing I have ever bought from JoAnne's.

I bought it because I grew tired of the inaccurate cuts I was getting on the Cutterpillar and the Fiskars portable trimmer. It isn't quite as portable as what I'd like, but that doesn't stop me from taking it with me. The fold is right at 6 inches, so the marks around 6 inches are difficult. I bought mine when they first came out with a Joann's coupon. Since the price has come down so much I wonder if Fiskars is getting ready to launch a new cutter. Anyone know?

I love mine. I have the Pro and do not take it to crops. The only crooked cuts I've gotten were my own user error.

A friend of mine bought her cutterpiller at the same time and she got a dud. It would not cut straight. So she sent it back and got a second one and it works great.

If anyone is looking for a Cutterpillar, Joann.com has the Pro and you can use a 50% coupon code + shipping.
The actual cutterpillar website has both the Pro and the Crop for 40% off with the discount code until the end of the month. + shipping.

I'm not finding it. scrapymom.... the code is kickstarter here is the blog post: kickstarterThe top of the page does not match the blog post 50% vs 40%, but I entered the code on the cutterpillar.com website and it does take $$ off. I did not confirm it was 40% because I only tried it, I did not actually buy one.

OK, I just went in and checked and folded it's 18x9. It might be too big if you go a lot or share a table. But it cuts really, really good. that's the deal breaker for me. it's still too big when folded. i barely have enough room on my desk as it is. i'll stick with my (now discontinued) MM Trimmer. at least it folds smaller and still cuts well after all these years.

I LOVED my MM trimmer. But I was apparently having a brain fart and cut two sheets of presentation paper (really thick stuff) then stacked and cut those (so 4 thick pieces) and uh oh. The blade bent. I tried fixing it, but it never cut properly after that. I was almost in tears. I still don't have the heart to toss it. It's just collecting dust unused. That's the only reason I considered and purchased the ProCision
