Our family has been invited to a last minute supper with neighbors tonight. I have agreed to bring a dessert, but need the participants have the following allergies: gluten, dairy, nuts and yeast. Yikes! Is there anything I can make? I'm thinking fruit salad, but that is so lame!

Flourless chocolate cake. Have seen and tried a couple on pinterest and they are good and gooey! My mother in lay has a dairy allergy and she loves this.

That looks perfect Katie, except I can't do the butter . I wonder if I could substitute margarine or if that would be gross.

You could make a fruit crisp. Here's a basic recipe: Peach CrispLeave the flour out of the topping. It will be fine without it. Instead of butter, you can use dairy free margarine. Many of them are dairy free. You can bring popsicles or sorbet too. I'm sure they would be very welcome on a summer day.

When dealing with that many food restrictions the last restriction you need to a self imposed "lame" I'd go with a fruit salad or a fruit tray and a couple of different fruit dips like caramel, creamcheese fluff dip. Then each person can choose a dip based on their individual needs or have naked fruit.

I would probably bring fruit salad (or Tina's brilliant suggestion of Popsicles ... I like the Dreyer's Outshine fruit bars) plus brownies or cookies or something.

you can also substitute coconut oil for butter. Works great for a fruit crisp

These are some great suggestions... thank you! It will be an interesting education to see what people bring for the other courses. I appreciate all the quick responses, now I can get to the store and get this made in time. Hope you all have a great day!

I'd probably bring an assortment of sorbets. The cartons are so small, you could get several different flavors.

We have no allergies in my family or extended family so it would be a total pain to have to figure out something that would work.

There is never any fruit salad left when we serve it for parties, even when there is a large amount of treats to choose from.

Flourless chocolate cake - sub coconut oil for the butter or 1/2 coconut oil, 1/2 Earth Balance Dairy Free "butter" sticks. This is go to dessert for our gluten free, dairy free, mammal free, nut free family gatherings. We serve with fruit and have a can of whipped cream for those who can do dairy. I've actually heard that some family members prefer coconut oil version to the butter version.
I will say that our family subscribes to the "if you can't (or choose not to) eat it, tough luck" philosophy - as in, not everything will be allergy free - but we will label/tell you and not be offended that you can't/choose not to eat it.

Honestly? If these are true allergies, and not food intolerances, I would go with the 'safe' dish and take fruit. Not all caramel is gluten or dairy free either. If you want a dip I would purchase it and leave it in it's original container so the guests that are allergic can read the label. I'm allergic to gluten and I'm still hesitant about eating something someone believes to be gluten free. Gluten is hidden in a lot of foods. I normally stick to whole foods that I know are gluten free at family gatherings, or I bring my own. I never expect anyone to serve anything gluten free specifically for me.

Meh. With that many allergies to deal with just bring grocery store gift certificates. Let them deal with it and get what they want.
