update...I checked them after airing them well...much better now and I am now happy!
So I bought some of those decorated cardboard shoe boxes to use for an upcoming crop at my home.....took the cellophane off...and then I discovered the most offensive odor from them!! ! can't figure out where it's coming from..(paste,paper,cardboard) but I sprayed with febreze ..didn't help, then put baking powder and closed them up for 2 days..still smells BAD!..the last resort was having my hubby spray them with clear sealer...that works best, but my goodness!! what was supposed to be a cute crop offering was such a disappointment....and now at least they smell like sealer fumes, which I hope will fade before I use them....sheesh, they are so cute too!

Good update. I find I don't buy a lot of products because they smell. Towels are really bad. So often they smell of the formaldehyde used to treat them. Obviously, you didn't smell the boxes because they were wrapped. I've returned products for that reason.
I once washed a really cute denim jacket several times and it still smelled of chemicals. I returned it to Christopher Banks. They were really nice about it and agreed it smelled odd.

I don't know what is going on with WalMart and the products. The fumes are getting bad. I bought a nightgown from them a week ago. I washed the nightgown and it still smelled like fumes. I had to wash it twice before I got the fumes out.
I know what boxes you are talking about. I thought they were so cute. The fumes were really bad. I couldn't buy one because I have asthma. I really wanted one to store my Project Life cards.

I bought two of those over the door Just Jinger scrapbook organizers from Tuesday Morning a few years ago and OMG they smelled HORRIBLE after I got them out of the boxes! I don't know if it's because so much of that stuff is made in China or what but it was bad. The smell eventually did go away but because those were made of wood (well, wood LIKE stuff, LOL) it took longer for them to completely air out.
