I am doing monthly photo challenges for myself and invite anyone who is interested to join along. February's challenge is to take some photos that are a different type than you normally take. If you are mostly into landscapes, try some portraits, or vice versa. If you've been thinking of doing some product or food photography, but haven't gotten around to it yet, give it a try! If you normally take posed portraits, maybe try some candids or lifestyle photography. If you always use natural light and your flash unit sits in a drawer most of the time, drag it out and dust it off. The idea is to step out of your comfort zone and try something different.

I like this month's challenge. I'm doing a 366 challenge this year, but part of my goal was learning how to use my flash off camera. The more I do it, the more fun I am having. It's not so scary anymore.

It's not so scary anymore. Great photos! I love the lighting in the musical photo, and the care you took to set up the Smarties (?) one, from the background to the nail polish! Thank you. What amazed me about the violin photo was while it was night time, I still had the light on in the room. My goal was to accomplish the black background. I was amazed how simple it really was to do. Candy is dark chocolate m&ms. Loved the color. Picked out the nail polish to match but forgot about the background cloth until I was getting ready to shoot it.
