Good morning ladies!! I hope everyone had a great weekend!! As I mentioned yesterday, my weekend was a bit crazy. I read all your replies from yesterday's post and I appreciate all the good thoughts for my dd. Her dizziness is gone but she's still dealing with a headache. She's going to school today but I know she's worried about being able to read/focus for long periods of time. She's done nothing all weekend except rest so I really hope we see improvements in a day or two. Official weigh in was this morning - down 1.6 lbs. I was down more than that earlier in the week but with that time of the month here now, I'm not all surprised. I'm hoping to see a better loss next week. I think my total lost now is 17 lbs. I didn't realize it originally but I'd put in the wrong starting weight in MFP so last week it was 17 lbs lost when really it was only around 15. I got that all fixed and now it's 17 lbs lost. I was really hoping for a snow day today - we're supposed to get 4 inches of snow today starting around lunchtime. After last week's debacle with snow, I thought for sure the school would err on the side of caution and close but nope. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad because dh has an hour and 5 min commute on a good day. I hope you all have a great day!!

Hi everyone!
I did pretty ok this weekend and finally lost something - 1lbs from last Monday.
I'm really happy because Thursday was bad and overall I have been eating little too much. But I worked out three times and it probably helped.
Still struggling with eating and exercise. I hate working out. I never get the happy feeling afterwards that everybody raves about. I'm just tired. But I know I need to do something so I'm trying to stay positive.

brandy327--when my son had a concussion last year he was told to stay home for a week. No tv. No reading. No video games. If she is struggling at school I would have her Come home. I was down 2 lbs on Friday but it's back today. . I didn't go over my calories Friday and Saturday but didn't necessarily make healthy choices. Yesterday was good until the super bowl party. I have my food and workout planned for the day and will drink a lot of water so hopefully the two lbs goes away again.

The doc that we saw was really on the fence whether to call it a mild concussion or not because other than the headache and dizziness, she had no other symptoms. I did sent a message to her teacher about what all was going on and asked that they give her some short breaks if she needs it. I did tell her that if she seemed to be struggling just to call me and I'll come and pick her up.

Great job on the loss, Brandy. And be careful with that concussion. My daughter was out of school for a year with a severe concussion. They are nothing to mess with. I think she still has issues from it, and that was 8+ years ago.
Kristin, sorry about the weight loss/gain. That's frustrating but I bet it's fluids.
I lost 5.8 lbs. my first week on WW. I have never in my life lost that much in a week. I am sure that was mostly fluids too. And since I probably won't be on plan this week, I am just praying to maintain. I do not want to gain!
Enjoy your day everyone!

Great job on the continued weight loss, everyone! I continue to struggle :/ Exercise is great---ran both Sat. and Sun. but my eating wasn't good at all---I've added things more healthy things to my diet but that doesn't stop me from overeating.
I think I need to start counting calories more strictly and log my eating (plus cut back on the calories a little). Apparently I need to eat about 1675 calories a day in order to lose 7# in 2 months (I did one of those online calorie calculator thingies).
I was thinking of trying the intermittent fasting thing but just think it would cause me to binge on my nonfasting days----anyway, we will see....

Tell me more Kristen Like do you do low calorie fast days or 14/16/20 hour fasts? Is it really hard on the fast days? I'm really intrigued by the idea---just not sure it would work for me with my tendency to binge :/

Way to go on the losses! I'm thinking my little stroll in the woods yesterday didn't even come close to negating what I ate last night at the Superbowl party but it was something. I already went to the gym this morning and I've got my meals planned out for the day and I'm working on the meal prep for the week. It's evidently all in the planning and I'm more of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl.

I'm really intrigued by the idea---just not sure it would work for me with my tendency to binge :/ The idea of 5:2 is to have two days where you eat 500 calories or less and the rest of the days you can eat "normally" or around your TDEE. There is a Facebook group that is really helpful. There are a lot of people who don't count on their non-fast days and seem to eat a lot of junk and drink a lot and they still lose. I am short and have a low TDEE, so I am not one of them. . I do count most days but not all. Once you get to maintenance, you can do one fast day per week. I would like to incorporate 16:8 during the week as well but it doesn't always work with my schedule. On fast days I try to wait until late morning to eat (some people eat small meals throughout the day and others find it easier to just have liquids until dinner) and then finish eating early in the evening. The next day I don't eat breakfast right away to continue the fast as long as I can. Most of the time I am less hungry the day after a fast day.

I like a daily form of IF, where I don't eat after dinner, which is kind of early for me. So if last meal is at 6pm, I don't eat anything else until breakfast the next day. This is hardly fasting, but it does mean I squash all my eating into 12 hours of the day. I do this somewhat by preference now, I just don't want to be eating right up until bedtime, or every few hours, so it works for me. Today I'm back on the road and gone almost all week. I think I'm going to try to log in here every day though because it helps me remember what my goals and plan are, even if I am working long days. B: toast with AB + yogurt L: veggies and dip + cheese, ham D: dinner is with my boss tonight, he'll be doing my performance review, and I'm picking the restaurant. No pressure, right?

I do 16:8 IF daily and have done so for months just because I've read tons of articles about health benefits from fasting. Now that I am eating less, it is really helping the scale move. I'm down 2 pounds since Wednesday (when I finally bought a scale).

TY Kristen and Mochi for the info------I will look for the FB group. The best group is an international group (most of the people are from the UK) but sometimes the food they talk about or the words they use makes no sense. There is a 5:2 America group as well but it's not as active.

I'm asking for suggestions to speed up my weight loss. I finally showed another loss weighing in this morning. But since when I started MyFitnessPal 1/21, I've only lost 4.2 lbs. This discourages me! 18 days to lose 4.2 lbs. Feels so insubstantial compared to Patter 's first week loss! They have me on 1200-1300 calories daily, and most days I hit my net, after adding exercise calories. I'm walking 35 minutes on the treadmill, going faster and longer than I first started, and lately have been doing at least a 4 incline. I do that 4-5 times a week. I feel like I'm eating completely differently now, and I do feel better without the sugar and fewer carbs. I'm putting it out there that I weigh 189 now, am 5'2" and really small boned. I have LOTS of fat to lose. I'm 52 though-- could that be why I'm losing so slowly?

16:8 means I fast 16 hours a day and eat all my calories in an 8 hour window. Usually noon to 8 pm.

brandy327 I am sorry to hear about your dd. My sis got a concussion last summer and was out for several days. She tried to go back to work after 3 days but she ended up only working a few hours before she was queasy and had a splitting headache. She was then off the rest of that day and then 2 more. It was pretty scary! The weight Gods are rejoicing in my house today!! I've been super strict with food and workout and last week on Monday, official weigh in, I barely lost. Super bummer. Then that day, started my cycle. Duh! That finished Thursday. I was super compliant with food and workout all week and this weekend also. Official weigh in today: I lost 4 pounds!!!!! Never happens. Never. I think part is because I lost the water weight and my cycle is over. Super compliant with my calories, eating around my BMR and I have been religious with my workouts. 5 days a week. The biggest thing though, I got off that birth control about 6 weeks ago. I am so close to goal!! Just about 10 pounds to go. That was my initial goal but doing some reading on BMI I may try for a bit more, maybe another 5 to 10 pounds. And I definitely want to work on muscle definition.

I actually lost closer to 2 lbs (0.9kg) last week. I can't convert apparently! I've been eating too much today, but luckily stayed under my daily calories and have around 100 minuscalories. I didn't make the best choice at lunch and it shows. But the food was delicious!

MFP wanted me at 1200 calories also, but my BMR is 1552 calories. So the calculator actually suggests that I try to eat around 1615. Eating below your BMR causes your body to slow metabolism.
Also, it took me 6 mo to lose 20 pounds! So I think 4 in 2 1/2 weeks is great!!

Morning! Sounds like everyone is ready to take on the week! Some great victories!
I'm off work today and about to head to my chiropractor to see about fixing up my hip. This morning was the least amount of pain I've had waking up in 5 days. I'm wearing shoes that tie, I shaved my legs, and I dried my hair (the hair dryer is kept in a low cabinet). Happy to have some mobility back and even happier to hopefully get some answers so I can start rehab.
Have a great Monday everyone!

I walked on the treadmill for 30 min and then did day one of the BBM 6 week challenge. It was pretty easy so I think I need to use heavier weights next time.

I am short as well (barely 5') and we have fewer calories to play with since our BMR is so low. That is why I like 5:2. I would have to be very strict every day of the week and still end up with a pretty small calorie deficit (which would be a very slow loss) without 5:2. I still lose slower than most on 5:2 but it's the fastest I have lost so far. By BMR is 1256 at my current weight. That will go down as I lose.

I have never lost that much in my life ever so I don't know why it happened but I am thankful. I just really, really stuck to plan, exercised 5 out of 7 days, and that was it. I do think that 1,524 sounds right and you should shoot for that. You probably are eating too few calories and everything shut down. I will be 51 in June so I am not that far behind you, and my body is definitely different than when I did this 5 years ago at age 46!!! And make sure you have tons of water. I am a huge water drinker. Always have been but I could tell I was retaining a lot of it. Hugs, and being down 4+ pounds is better than not!

kellybelly77 , my BMR is 1524. Now I'm confused. Why would the MyFitnessPal program suggest such a lower amount of calories? I have no idea! I think the 1200 calorie thing is just a universal number that people came up with. There are all kinds of articles with meal plans for that amount of calories. But most of the websites that I follow indicate that 1200 calories is starvation mode for most folks and your body slows your metabolism to conserve energy so you don't actually starve.
Once you calculate your BMR you also calculate your TDEE, or the total number of calories that your body expends with your normal daily activity and workouts. Mine was something like 2200. So in order to get a calorie deficit I need to eat less than 2200 but more than 1552.
You may want to figure out both numbers and then eat somewhere in between and see how it goes for a few weeks. While 1552 is my minimum, I aim for 1650ish and try not to go over 1750. 1750 is my special night/going out for dinner number since it allows me a few more calories for the day!

Some people on mfp advocate figuring out your TDEE then dividing by 20% and eating that. I have also heard that starvation mode is a myth. Not sure which is accurate, but if people actually did go into starvation mode, wouldn't people who really are starving or who have had a drastic cut in calories (such as gastric bypass) lose more slowly? Or does it have something to do with the fact that they are eating so little where if you were still eating a decent amount of calories it might make a difference? I also wonder how many calories people who are very thin all the time actually eat. I have a sister in law who weighs under 100 lbs. she has toned muscles and has always been that weight. She eats very little. Her body has obviously not gone into starvation mode and hoarded fat when she does indulge. . Just some things I ponder at times.

I wonder the same things too Kristin! Weight loss is such an individual journey. Some is maybe genetics, some are outside factors like the food you eat, your environment, your lifestyle, etc. Just keep trying and find out what works for you is about the best people can do. Funny enough though, I took my TDEE and divided by the 20% figure and that came out to be exactly what the other weight loss calculator told me to eat and where I try to keep my calories.

If you google benefits of intermittent fasting, you will find a lot of articles about it. I am on my phone and can't figure out how to link them.
Basically, when your body isn't having to digest food constantly, it can focus on repairing damaged cells and other issues. I started out doing 5:2 but I wanted to kill somebody on my fast days twice a week. Then I found out you can have the same benefits with fasting 16:8, and that is much more manageable for me.
Also, I feel much more satisfied during my 8 hour window because I can split my 1300 calories between lunch and dinner.
