I couldn't work out why on my posts when I've quoted someone, it didn't come up with "5 minutes ago So-and-so said:" and then shows their quote, but it does on other people's quotes.
Today I worked out that if I click on the Quote button in the post I want to quote, it does that.
I was just copying and pasting the quote into my own post. I guess that means people were not getting a notification that I had quoted them.
Am I the only one who didn't know how to quote properly?

It took me a whole to figure it out. I would quote someone but it would be from the post below. So yes, I was hitting the wrong quite button.

I wasn't exactly sure that I was typing in the right spot when I quoted, but I think I am. I did figure it out before now, surprisingly. I am usually way behind on that stuff. Now, don't ask me to put a picture in a post. I haven't ventured to try that yet.

This is the only way I know how--the button at the top of each person's post.

Quote and like are the only things I know how to do. My spell check used to work, but it doesn't any more.

You can also use the quote button in the quick reply/reply box and paste whatever you want in place of the 'insert quote here' text between the brackets it creates: [ quote]insert quote here[ /quote]

Most of us are so used to having to do it that way at the Bucket it's hardly surprising it takes a while to adjust.

Surprisingly I figured out how to quote after someone explained it only once. Usually I am terrible at this stuff. At the old board I couldn't quote at all because no one has been able to teach me how to copy and paste things. My sister tried but gave up on me after a few tries. I realize little children can copy and paste but I just can't get it right.

Oh, the other day I was trying to use several different quotes within a post (interspersed with my comments), and I couldn't make it work right. Having a "duh" moment now! Testing: Am I the only one who didn't know how to quote properly? No, Meg, you're most certainly NOT!

I actually quote both ways. If I only want a small portion of a long post, I use the quote button in my reply window, but if I want all or most of the post, I hit the quote button on their post.
It never dawned on me that they didn't get a notification when I quote from my reply box. I hope people don't mind that.

There is a third way to quote which works if you want to make multiple quotes from different people. Once you hit the reply button, all of (or most of) the posts show up underneath the reply window. Each post has a quote button. You can hit the quote button of one post and type in a response if you choose then hit the quote button for another post to quote another poster. You can quote as many as you want and reply to each one or none at all.

Ha, I am trying two new things here. To place a second quote AND to notify AussieMeg she was quoted. Let's see if that works.
ETA: Well, the quote worked but the hashtag thingee didn't. Off to look that up.
