I'm in the market for a new paper trimmer. The one I have now works fine but it is only 3" long without opening up the arm- does that make sense? Since I do PL, I almost never cut anything longer than 6" but often use 4" so I am looking for one that goes to 4 or 6" without having to be opened because I can't leave it open on my small desk and it's a pain to do. I also like the slide cutters because I can see precisely where I am cutting, but am open to the guillotine cutter if you all think it is way better. I also am looking for a 12" long cutter so I can trim down page protectors. This isn't a huge purchase but it is something I use every time I scrap so I want to make sure I get the best one for me! TIA

I prefer the sliders too. Never could get used to the ones with a wheel. I feel like I have to press really hard and I can't see where I'm cutting. For small things and for pics I really like my Fiskars guillotine cutter. It's compact and the measurements are clear and easy to read. For everything else I have this Fiskars Trimmer and also this trimmer from Cricut. The Cricut one is nice because it's pretty compact width wise but if I need to cut something wider you swing out the arm. The fiskars trimmer is the same with an arm but it has a broader platform. I hope this helps and makes sense.

I have two friends that use the Carl paper cutter and swear by it. I have had a few cutters that are just the tiniest bit off and I that fact that the angles aren't 90* really bothers me.

I have a Fiskars trimmer that is 6x12 and 15x12 with the arm extended. I'm not sure how old it is, but I probably bought it at Michael's. Mine is the same as the first one wvbeetlebug linked.

Me too, one of my biggest crafting peeves and probably the one that affects me the most! I don't like having to line the paper with the grid, because even that isn't completely precise and leaves room for human error.

For crops, I take my Tonic Guillotine trimmer. I think it is great! At home, I have a Genesis.

The cuterpillar crop sounds like it would be perfect. I am super picky about straight cuts, and it is the only one besides a genesis I have found that actually cuts, straight. The light is awesome top.

I also have the same Fiskars guillotine cutter as wvbeetlebug and really like it. On one weekend crop, I forgot my trimmer so I bought this Fiskars trimmer and really like it, as well. It's a little larger (but not as big as my 12" ones), I don't have to worry about sharpening the guillotine blade (they sell replacements) and I love the wire guide.

I will always stand behind the now discontinued Making Memories self sharpening trimmer. So great I own three- home, office, and back up. I've owned tons of Fiskars trimmers and I hated having to always replace the blade. I bought the Fiskars Procision once but it was just too bulky so I returned it.

Too funny, I have 3 of them as well! On my first one, the guidelines started rubbing off, so MM sent me a new one - free. Then, I saw a pink one on clearance, dirt cheap, so I bought that one, too. They are starting to wear out I have moved the blade from the first one to the pink one on my desk. I need to move the plastic protector/guide by the blade next.
I would gladly pay $100 for a new one - so bummed they don't make them anymore.

They had a pink one? How did I miss that? Lol. And I would pay $100 for a new one too!

I have a first generation Cutterpillar Pro. It's not perfect--you have to remember to press the blade against the side of the cutter or it cuts wonky. But I'm content to keep it. I've saved so much by not having to get blade refills. It is bulky though. I'm going to a retreat later this year, and I doubt I will bring it. Not sure what to take instead, though . . .

The Cuttetpillar Crop will measure 6" without the arm extended. The light and self sharpening blade are awesome. I also have a black and silver Fiskars that measures 5" without the arm extended. Both will measure 12" too.
The Fiskars is definately smaller. But the Cuttetpilar Crop is my fav.

When I had convinced myself to splurge for the Genesis to replace my inexpensive Fiskars a year ago, I learned Bonnie's Best was no longer producing the trimmer. Many scrappers recommended the Fiskars Procision as an alternative. I highly recommend it, which can be purchased with coupon at big box stores. HTH
