I have a really nice big sewing machine that I use for fabric sewing, but it's not located in my scrap room, and I don't have it set up all of the time. I would love to get a little machine that I can whip out for sewing on a layout, and slide back in a drawer or under a table easily.
There are several $30 mini machines on Amazon that look interesting. I really need it to do nothing more than sew a straight line on papers, page protectors, and through embellishments.
Any recommendations?

I used to have Kenmore Mini Ultra and I loved it. It broke when DH convinced me that it could handle hemming some super heavy duty pants. I'd like to find another one.

whatever you do, do no buy the super mini ones. they are crap crap crap! I sew on paper a lot and I just use mt regular sewing machine. it doesn't affect the machine or the needles and you get better handling on it than you would on one of the crappy little machines. if you want to keep the budget down, buy a full size machine on craigslist or something. if you want to keep the size down, a Janome Sew Mini style machine would be the smallest I would go.

Ditto the above ^^^ Janome Sew Mini (in teal). I got it on sale through Joann's, I just purchased one for my Mom through Bed, Bath & Beyond and was able to use coupon. It's a nice little machine, I like it, easy to use. My regular sewing machine is Janome too, so I felt comfortable with the quality of the brand.

I've always loved the look of sewing but never ever ever wanted to get out my big old and confusing sewing machine. I had no idea mini sewing machines were even a thing! I am asking for the Janome Sew Mini for my birthday and Valentine's Day! Thanks for the recommendations- you guys really are a FONT of knowledge

They have "portable" sewing machines but I don't see the "sew mini." Thanks!

Also, I was at Ikea yesterday and they had a mini sewing machine for $70. Has anybody had any experience with that?

That Janome is a cute little machine! Both of my (very old) sewing machines are broken, and I've been shopping for a new high-end machine. The price is a little daunting, and it may be a while until I take the plunge. This would be a great little machine to get by with, and I want to try more sewing on my pages. I like the mint/lavender model that Bed Bath and Beyond has.
Thanks for the great question and recommendations everyone!

FWIW I just bought a little Janome Sew Mini off Amazon for $59! It was so easy to set up and I've already used it! (I posted this on IG but I thought I would put it up here)

I'm intrigued and $55 is an awesome price for the sew mini. I may have to go and check it out at Hancock.

Well, I was all excited to get me a sale priced Sew Mini from Hancock Fabrics. Order confirmed and everything. But today I got a cancellation notice "we regret to inform you blah, blah, blah, the item from your order is not currently available for purchase..." What the what? Who got my sewing machine?! Of course the mini Ott light I ordered to use with the Sew Mini is on its way. Color me disappointed.
