Warning: This is a whiny post!! I am fortunate enough to have a dedicated craft room all to myself. Last Fall I was involved in a HUGE project/event for a volunteer group and happily used my scrapbook supplies, computer, printer, Silhouette, Minc, glitter, paint, inks.... and my room looks like a tornado hit (but the project/event turned out great!) I never did get around to putting things away, and then Thanksgiving hit, and then Christmas arrived and then.... See where I'm going with this?? I have just been dragging my feet about cleaning up my room because it is so overwhelming! I haven't been able to do any craftin'/scrappin' because every surface is covered in "stuff" and the floor has junk stacked around. I seriously am thinking that I look like an episode of Hoarders! I have a four day weekend coming up with absolutely no obligations except Church on Sunday. Okay Pea Friends, I need a kick in the backside to get motivated to put my room back together!!

Here's motivation: if you hurry and clean it up, you'll have time left to scrapbook over this weekend!

FOUR DAYS OF UNINTERRUPTED HOME-TIME?! You can do anything in four days! You can conquer the world in 4 days! Just plan for it and don't let other things tear you away if this is how you want to spend it. Start doing something, anything, and it'll all come together! Good luck!

You can do it! Just dive in and do one thing at a time. Promise yourself a reward for every hour. Purge while you are at it...get a box for donate and a big trash bag.

I'd start with a large trash bag. It might not look so bad after you toss the trash. Then just start putting stuff away. Or you can continue to ignore the mess.

I had a box for recycling, a big trash bag for garbage, a box for stuff that I wanted to sell and another box for stuff I wanted to donate. I had a few other boxes to sort stuff I needed to organize. Just start with one area or one pile and deal with everything in that area or pile until that surface is totally cleared, then move on to the next one. Try not to get sucked in as you're going through things! It's so easy to get sidetracked by all.the.pretty.stuff! LOL. Now my problem is that I have a wall of boxes full of things I need to get ready for a sale. Ugh, really not looking forward to tackling that, but I need all this junk stuff out of my way!

One little bit at a time! Once you make a little progress, you'll be a lot more motivated.
I created my space out of our family study/computer room. It had become a catch all room where old electronics, books and toys went to die, I tried not to look at the whole room, but just picked a spot to work on. Every time I left the room, I made a plan for what I would tackle next time I walked in, even if it was just putting away one little thing.
You can do it! We'll cheer you on!

I'm still working through my craft room reorganization and I admit to running out of steam. I want it done but I also need to make cards. So I've been using the timer on my phone and telling myself I must work on some cleaning up for 15 minutes before I can go to my desk and create.
I'm discovering you can get a lot done in 15 minutes. Sometimes, I'm so into what I'm doing, I'll reset the timer for another 15 minutes. To look at the whole room is overwhelming (especially when I'd rather be creating). But 15 minutes? I can do that!
Good luck with your clean up!

I recently just did this my self. Remember to take breaks and walk away. And remember you will get to that moment where it looks worse than it was and what have I done. Don't work push past take a break and carry on.
Remember what the end result is. Organized fresh space to work in. Plus going thru your stuff will inspire you.
ways that I have found work for me. Move clockwise around the room. If you have place where you can take the piles to this gives you room to work in room. Group like things together. Work an area at a time.
GOOD LUCK

Okay!! You've all inspired me. I have notified my family (hubby, college-age daughter) that I am UNAVAILABLE for anything this weekend because I'm devoting all four days to cleaning/organizing and then PLAYING (assuming I've successfully cleaned/organized). I even brought boxes home from work and labeled them donate, toss, sell, etc.
No kidding about not getting sidetracked. It's so tempting once I get a small surfaced cleaned to just do a "quick" fun project... which I know me, turns in to a big project and then nothing else gets done.
I took pictures last night of my mess with the idea that maybe if I posted them here, I would be more motivated. It looks like a Dr. Seuss book with towering stacks of stuff and colorful what-evers all over the place. So embarrassing that I let it get so far gone.
Hmmmm, kind of excited to get started tomorrow...

Good luck with your project! One thing I do if I discover some treasure I really want to play with, I put it into a separate pile, or in a page protector, and put a sticky note on it to say the cool title I though of, or what pix I might use with it. Then when you are done cleaning, you will have a quick project all ready to go. Something to look forward to

deekaye ok...we NEED the before pictures Haha, oh, but if I did that, you'd probably be so disgusted with me that you'd put me on ignore. Really, it's bad!!!! Honestly, I love the organization process. I see so much potential when I see before pictures. Might I add a suggestion? If you have an adjacent room, it might be easier to sort in there. If every available surface is covered, you're going to have a rough time finding places for your sort bins, but if you set them up in a clear space (hallway would work for this, too...so long as it doesn't impede you being able to walk through it easily) you won't feel overwhelmed trying to find space AND it makes it more difficult to get distracted. It all depends on the type of person you are...with too much stuff (which is why organizing my hoard is enjoyable for me) I feel claustrophobic and I would easily become stressed out in a space where just trying to fit the boxes into an already full room would prove difficult. I also tend to be a bit ADD in the sense that I'll find one thing, realize it goes in a certain place, I go to that place, find something there that belongs somewhere else and before I know it, I've spent 8 hours doing a million little things that didn't accomplish much of anything. It's also easier to clear out your space entirely (or nearly so) and find new homes for your stuff as you begin to bring it back in (once you're done sorting trash/sell/donate/keep you can further sort your keep into categories)...which would make it extra handy to be able to move your stuff that needed to be sorted into an adjacent room. Without seeing your space, I can't say if these things necessarily apply to you, but hopefully there was a suggestion in there that would help you. Ikea opens here in a few months and I can't wait...I think my dream job would be a professional craft room organizer but I think the market might be a bit too niche to make a steady living off of, so to me, the next best thing is Ikea. With them opening here, finally, I at least have a dream job I'd love to do when the time comes for me to return to work.

'Just popping in here to say thanks to everyone for all the words of encouragement. As always happens in life, my supposedly four free days ended up only being one free day (gotta love my family but MAN, they can gobble up my time!! ), but I did some major cleaning/organizing on my one free day! It's not finished, by any means and I'm resisting the urge to sit down and do fun stuff until it's done, but it's probably 3/4 complete. I did take some before pictures but then was seriously too embarrassed to post them.... maybe I'll post before/after pictures soon. Thanks for all you help, pea friends!
