A what do you feed question - any experiences with Natural Balance LIT? Have 2 dogs and was considering this for the one who doesn't have sensitivities because there's always the chance the other could get it (unlikely, but to be safe it's a consideration.)
We have a shih tzu who just turned 4 and basically when I took her off puppy food she itched like crazy and through elimination and introduction I figured out she's allergic/sensitive to chicken. So we stuck with lamb and she did well until a couple recent episodes of pancreatitis. Food from vet with pork and we're seeing same reactions as chicken. They contacted a manufacturer and have something coming for us - problem is if you can eliminate the chicken and now pork, the fat is high and she can't have that. So we're on to fish based. My question though is has anyone ever had their pet tested for allergies/sensitivies and how? I've seen a few at home kits advertised, but of course am not sure of them. Hoping this food works, but if not i'm wondering about other options.

I have 2 miniature schnauzers that have had some skin issues for awhile. I did notice some relief when I put them on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Duck. My groomer told me about Zignature Kangaroo so I tried that. Their itchiness has come back full force! So....I'm going back to Natural Balance. I would say try it for sure. Good luck!

We use a grain free food from Addiction called Viva La Venison. They have other protein options too.

We have a 1 year 8 month old shih tzu who has food and contact environmental allergies.
She had bad bad eczema on her tummy as well as smelly poop. Vet noticed it when I brought her in and immediately placed her on Hill's Science Z/D prescription dog food. It is chicken but they remove the protein that sauces the reaction.
Within 2 weeks her tummy was clear and she had normal poop.
For her contact envirmental allergies we were given a few shampoos to try and when her eczema is bad (she will lick her paws) we are to wash every 3 days. If she visits the dog park (something there causes a reaction) we are to wash her paws when we get home.
She is also on clariton daily. She has required a few cortizone shots too.
We will eventually do allergy testing but its a $600 lab screen. Too much for us to spend right now.
The food switch was huge for her. That also stopped the ear infections. Well until her past groomer didnt clean her ears and let a mat grow. Ugh She ended up needing OtiPac antibiotic.

We tried pork, lamb, turkey, and fish. She had reactions to all! Se is allergic to chicken but with the Z/D they somehow remove the allergy and she is totally.fine.on it.

My boys have skin issues from allergies as well. They do best with Nutro Lamb and Rice formula. They also get 2 Vitamin E pills a day, one with each meal. They also get some plain yogurt on their morning meal and a bit of sweet potato or pumpkin with their dinner. It's been almost a 180! Huge improvement.

We're just waiting on the bag of food to come in to the vet to start the switch. In the meantime she's on something for the itching which helps. I feel horrible feeding her something that makes her itch, but they don't want me introducing stuff because of the pancreatitis. They did mention food where they remove the proteins but were finding them too high in fat for the pancreatitis part. It's been such a project - they finally called a few manufacturers to come up with what they're giving us. Thinking the limited ingredient food for the other dog in case she happens to get into his.

My Yorkie has horrible allergies. We did the ELISA test. She is allergic to pretty much every kind of tree. We put her on allergens and Apoquel.
She is also allergic to peas. If you are shopping for grain free food, almost all of them have peas in them. We were trying an elimination diet and put her on a food that was lamb and peas. That was it. Her allergies got a thousand times worse! I knew it was not the lamb. We took her off of everything with peas and she has been so much better. The lesson there is that I would not be so sure that the dog is allergic to the source of protein.
