I think it's a great idea. I personally don't eat beans in mine (in fact I never knew people did before I heard from the Peas) but I could pick them out. I like mine with rice mostly. When I don't have rice on hand I'll eat it with Fritos.
I read somewhere that eating chili with a peanut butter sandwich (not jelly) is suppose to be really good. Haven't tried that one yet.

Love chili, but are there beans in it? I would think a room full of people eating bowls of beans might not work out so well.

I am really picky about my chili. If I had a choice, I would prefer something else.

Sounds good - I actually find chili less messy than sandwiches, because sandwich stuff gets all over your fingers, tomatoes drop out unexpectedly, etc. I agree!!plus I'd much rather eat a dish served with utensils than a finger food at a crop. Chili Is good because it's thicker, less prone to spilling. Tortilla soup with a veggie broth might appeal to more diets.

I'm a vegetarian so don't eat chili. The 12 hour crops at the LSS here had 6" grinders and chips from a local deli for lunch or plenty of pizza for dinner which was great. Like what you are planning, the food was included with the cost of the crop. There was also lots of cold soda and water in the fridge, a Keurig, McDonald's next door for coffee if I didn't have k-cups, and best of all, Starbucks was only a couple of miles down the road. You are probably on the other side of the country but I would think about going if I lived in the area.

Chili, cornbread and potatoes sound wonderful! How about adding a salad? Where are you located? I am just north of Boston....maybe a small road trip is in my future?

Since some of the toppings would overlap I would maybe add a baked potato bar. We had one at a crop and it was a big hit. The chili also works as a potato topping. I know done like saltines on their chili and I like green onions. ETA at crops we always had a potluck. The host would choose a theme or tell us what she was serving and people would bring something to go with it or something they liked to share. It was a lot of fun. What a great idea! I am not a fan a chili, mostly because I don't eat beef and the majority of chili out there in the world has meat in it. If chili is all there is, I would be a bit hungry at the end of the day. But having baked potatoes too is such a good idea. Hardly any extra prep either.

I've noticed that whenever a food choice question is asked on the internet there tend to be more 'I don't like that' answers than when a food is just served at an event. I go to 2-3 crops a year, the organizer never asks what we want to eat. She makes the food and we can either eat it or bring our own. We have had everything from lasagna to tortilla soup to Pampered Chef demo food. Chili it's self is much less messy than baked potaoes. We always eat in our crop spot and don't seem to have issues. These crops are always sold out and have been going on for about ten years or so. If people aren't going to come to a crop because you served a food they didn't like once, that's on them

I just attended a weekend long scrapbooking retreat and chili is a staple for us one of the nights, but we rent a house that has a kitchen and separate eating area. Love chili! I find that salty snacks can be just as messy, that's why I keep a slightly damp kitchen towel with me so I can wipe my hands after feeding my face.

Are there plenty of restrooms available? That would honestly be a big concern if there was chili.
I love the idea of also have baked potatoes as many of the toppings overlap.

Well you would love my vegetarian chili then. When I make chili, that's pretty much what I always make.

Thanks for the great feedback! I had considered adding baked potatoes, so I will go ahead and do that. digirlwiz I am holding the crops in North Grafton. The venue is just minutes away from the Mass pike. I am doing it the 3rd Saturday of each month, so come on down sometime! NoWomanNoCry Chili is great with pb sandwiches. When I was a kid they would serve it in the school cafeteria with pb and maple syrup sandwiches, it may sound strange, but it was so good! Julie

I think chili sounds perfect, and adding baked potatoes is a great idea, as well. Even better is the idea of an actual crop! There hasn't been one in my area in years, and we are in an area that used to have three local scrapbook stores. I would LOVE to attend a crop. Do you mind if I ask how you got the ball rolling on you area, or have there been regular crops in your neck of the woods lately? I have found the best way to find all the crops in your area is to start hosting your own! I moved here 5 years ago and could not find any crops, so I decided to host my own and suddenly I am finding them everywhere! Julie
