In the "sleeping in" thread, people are posting that they can't stay up late or sleep in on weekends and vacations, but I have the opposite problem.
Question for all of you "morning people" (in full disclosure, I'm not really one of you, although I've been getting up lately at 5:00 a.m.):
Are any of you married to a night owl? How do you handle an early bedtime if your DH's sleep pattern is very different?
I've been "in training" for the past month to go to sleep earlier than usual because I will need to be awakening very early for several upcoming events in the near future, and I know I need to change my sleep habits very gradually, not all at once. But at 10:00 p.m., when I'm saying good night, my DH is wide awake and moving around the house, still eating dinner, and watching the more interesting TV shows that he has recorded. I do love the quiet mornings when I'm the only one awake, but I can't make noise then, so I don't get much accomplished.

My husband is an "early to bed, early to rise" person, but I like to stay up later. Usually I stay up after he goes to bed, and then I wake up when he does. Makes for a short night.

Hubby and I are both morning people but even with that said, I still wake up earlier than him by an hour or so. I usually come up to my studio and work up here. Our bedroom is downstairs so I make all of my noise in the studio while he sleeps.

I'm an early morning person married to a night owl. He stays up watching tv in the basement so that noise doesn't bother me. And in the morning I'm not making any noise except to pour that coffee. Any work I do in the morning is writing so that's very quiet.
Dh rarely wakes me up when he comes to bed, and he's never said that I wake him up in the morning. I never set an alarm and I don't get dressed first thing, so my getting up doesn't make any noise. I do on-call work for two hospitals, one of which does not have an overnight on-call room for chaplains. So if I'm on call for that hospital I make sure to put my clothes in the bathroom before I go to bed.

So far, like Patter and Monklady, I've been using the quiet mornings to work or read at my desk, although I've been too sleepy to be really productive. Hopefully, that will change as my body adjusts to the earlier routine. But even though I like getting up earlier, it's very hard for me to go to bed early--especially when the party is just getting started in the living room! (Right now, I'm motivated by the goal of being able to participate in specific events, but I'm wondering how to manage, long term. In past years, when I've done the same thing, it all slipped away as soon as the event was over.)
