I am giving a baby shower for my DD next month. It is a generic shower (we know what it is, but aren't sharing until the end of the shower). I am usually really good at this kind of thing, but I am just having a hard time getting ideas together. I have checked all over Pinterest and one of the things I want to make is a baby sock corsage using lavender, yellow and white (those are the colors I'm going to use, she doesn't want to use any pink or blue) socks. I can't find the darn socks. Any ideas on how I could color the socks (they are not all cotton)? I have all kinds of craft materials. Oh and her baby room will have a woodland theme (baby bunnies, foxs, bears, etc). Have you been to a baby shower recently where there were really cute decorations that you could share? I would love some ideas that have worked for others. Once I get started I think I will be okay, but I just can't seem to get it going. Thanks so much for any help. corsage

I just had my shower. I knew we were having a boy. It was pretty generic tho. My sister wrote on her window "Baby Shower today!" with window pens and hung out pennants in multiple colors.
For favors we gave away aero props (the website is down at the moment) in blue. You can get them in any color.
Games- we guessed how many sugar babies were in the container, played "pass the parcel" where there are little prizes wrapped within multiple layers. Each person takes off a layer, if there is a prize in it you win that prize, and use a string to guess how big around mommy is. Simple, easy, no stress.
Work just had a shower for me- cake, string game, word search.
I would avoid any of the nasty taste the baby food or guess the candy bar in the diaper games. IMO those are just nasty.
At my DD's shower, my sister printed out pages for an ABC book. She put an ultra sound picture on the B page for "baby" and a picture of me on the M for "mom" and a pic of DH on the D page for "Dad" and then passed out the rest of the pages with crayons scattered around and had people design their letter page with a picture. On the back side, everyone wrote a little message to the baby. Then she laminated them and had them bound. Very cute!

It would probably be easier to make the corsage flowers out of white socks and carry the theme colors with the ribbons underneath. I have a newborn and trust me finding socks in those colors will be more trouble than it is worth. And expensive if they aren't being sold by the pair or you have to buy three different sets to get the colors you need. I swear my socks are cheaper than my baby's! Congratulations to you! Have fun planning the shower!

You may begin to find these color socks as the spring item come into stores but there's no guarantee that those are common colors this year. I think you could use ribbons to carry out the theme. maybe some tulle for back ground.

Thanks for your ideas!

One thing everyone enjoyed at the baby shower I did for my daughter was a game I made with baby pictures I printed out of celebs, numbered and posted on an easel. I gave out a list of celebs (with a few extras to throw off the matching up) which guests tried to match up to the photos during the shower. People had fun doing that, and at the end we had the reveal and a prize of a basket and gift certificate.
Also we did another game where you put baby items (eg pacifier, bottle brush) inside plastic bags and then put those inside paper bags taped tightly shut and numbered. People have to guess what is in each bag just by feeling it, and write it on a numbered list they are given. It's great because they can pass things around throughout the shower, and again, a reveal and a prize at the end. I double-bagged each item as a preventive for the overly-zealous guessers who were doing a little too much bag squishing.

At my shower my SIL had everyone write down a baby question and then pass the paper to the person beside them. On the paper with the question from their neighbor, they answered THEIR own question. I then read the questions and the "answers". Some of them ended up pretty funny. "what is the best way to get your baby to sleep through the night?" "Rub some whiskey on the gums".

LOL that was a hoot finding baby pics of relatives.

Agreed about the colored socks!!!! You would be better off just using white socks and accenting with whatever colors of ribbon that you want to pull out. For some reason, baby socks can be so outrageously expensive, especially if you are trying to find something unique!!
The different baby picture types of games sound like lots of fun.

I thought for sure the Gymboree would have colored socks. All of my kids' socks used to come from there and were handed down from kid to kid. They stayed on and didn't get holes in them. But there are very few colors and lots of prints. Kohl's does have some colors. Maybe you would have better luck there.
As for decorations, there's lots out there for foxes, bears and bunnies. Easter is right around the corner. It doesn't have to come from the baby aisle. It sounds like a really cute theme!

The last baby shower I went to had a bingo game for the gift opening part of the shower. We were all given a bingo card and we filled out the squares with items we thought the mom would receive. The first to yell bingo got a prize.

I was just at a baby shower this weekend for one of dd's friends and I do think it is a great idea that you keep the gender to yourselves before the shower. My gosh if expectant parents opened up one more little girl outfit, I was going to burst! One guest gave her 10 outfits! Come on people - they need the essentials.
They did have a really cute headband station to make headbands for the baby girl, so if it is a girl and you want to reveal at the shower, it was a great idea.

How exciting for your family!! You are going to be one young and awesome grandma, I can tell! No shower ideas, sorry. I think you're very creative and will come up with a special and memorable gathering.

Toddler things. Outlet covers, dippy cups, etc... This is always my gift. Seems like one day they have a bottle and boom they need a soppy cup and you don't have one. Seems to be s good gift, DH employee commented several months later how they loved our gift the best, cause they didn't know they needed it until they did and there it was!

I love all of the suggestions. Have a great time!

This is exactly why they are keeping it a secret until the end of the shower. Her SIL & BIL told the sex before the shower and all she got was little boy cloths. You are right, the shower is for getting essentials (at least it was when I had my kids) not just getting cloths. They got so many things that never got worn because he was a big baby.

I spread the word and registered for almost exclusively DIAPERS. This is my second kiddo so I have pretty much EVERYTHING I need. Diapers is the only thing we really needed. Everyone knew we were having a boy so I got hand me downs from like 4 different people! My kid is clothed from birth to at least a year. We'll have more since the hand me down train has been started for us. My first was a girl. I have ALL of her clothes boxed up by size waiting to pass them along to someone who is having a girl. So far, almost all boys!

I am confused-are the baby socks for the guests or for the mom? Because if it is for the guests I would probably not do them-most people will not have any thing to do with baby socks aside from tossing them after the shower.
We had a woodland themed shower for my nephew and his wife. We had a tree my sister (the grandma) Drew and ink pads for everyone to add a fingerprint "leaf" to the tree and sign around the mat. It was very cute. We had a little poem that went with it-I think we got the idea from Pinterest and adjusted the poem for the tree we found on there.
We made owl favors with cello bags filled with peppermint patties inside and it said "thanks for sharing in our exciteMINT about baby e!"
For serving we had "chargers" for under the serving pieces that were slices of a tree and clear glass containers with river rocks and candles down the table, the runner was burlap. We liked that the table looked rustic.
Didn't play too many games. We did have one with lots of animals and people had to write what the baby animal was named.

The baby socks (for my shower anyway) are made into roses and are part of a corsage for the Mom. I don't think I intend for them to be worn by the new baby. Love the river rock idea. Thanks for your suggestions.

I planned a baby girl shower last November and these are the centerpieces I made. The white "flowers" were made with Target brand disposable diapers and the rest came from Dollar Tree. Very inexpensive, but still pretty, I think.
We played a blindfolded diaper changing game, gift bingo and "The Price Is Right" baby themed, of course.
I have other pictures if you'd like to see them. Good luck with the shower!

I'm pretty sure the last shower i attended was my own, or maybe one after that but i hate games so for mine the only games were a guess how much weight I've gained which is always awkward and a guess whose baby photo. ..the guests brought photos of themselves but the twist was that one was of dh. I found have sworn it was his sister, lol. I do enjoy the guess how many candies are in this jar, we did that at a friend's shower. My friends all decorated onesies and they were hung on a line to dry which was really cute. I liked some of them but some of them never got used beyond a photo for whoever made it. Eta i forgot one more recent shower, the hostess gave everyone a mason jar with a pretty lid and paper straw to drink lemonade in and we took them home. We also wrote advice on little tags that i think she made into a book, and decorated mini canvases, that were 2"x2" so they didn't take up much space.

Do you own a digital die cutter like a Cameo? There are some super cute fox and hedgehog cuts that would be cute, and I know there is bunny stuff as well.
