This one has good reviewsThe one I have has the food pedal opener, but MaxTheBeagle can bypass that and flip the lid open with his snout. THe rim of the lid hangs over, no bueno because it fairly SCREAMS "You gotta snout? Flip ME!"

We've placed a hand weight on the lid of a flip top trash can. The first time it falls down the dog tucked her tail between her legs and didn't go back. You can also get a buckle style child lock.

Beagle proof? Ha! Fat chance. The only thing that keeps our beagle out of the trash is a baby gate and coffee grounds.

They were masters at food foraging. We have a lab now. So much easier!

Thankfully we have two 13 gallon trash cans in a pullout "drawer" in the kitchen. Saves us so much mess with 4 dogs. No one can get into it!

I would suggest the giant metal bear proof trashcans or a large tree with semi low hanging branches. HA! Beagles. Never buy a dog that can outsmart you.

We keep ours under the sink with a baby lock on the cabinet door. We tried taking the baby lock off but the dog figured out how to open the door. Beagles!

We've had our shih tzu (she's a big one) for almost three years. Until a few months ago we gave her full run of the living room/dining room combo and the kitchen when gone. Only closed the bathroom/bedroom doors. Then a while ago we came home and she had managed to tip over the trash and have a snack. She tried it once or twice more. Now we have a gate that we put up to keep her out of the kitchen when we're gone. Though our house is older and not an open floor plan so that makes it easier probably.

We have this one. It's ungodly expensive (got it at BB&B w/ 20% coupon) but it's been worth every penny. There is no lip that a dog could push up, and it closes tightly.

Get a smaller beagle. Ours tries to tip the trash can over, but we put it in a corner with the short side of the rectangle facing out. Our pocket beagle isn't big enough to tip it over then. Our lab was terrible about getting into the trash. We had to put it in the pantry and then put a five gallon bucket (full) in front of the door so she couldn't get in.

Oh, I so have sympathy for you. I have a Beagle. LOL! I've yet to find a beagle proof one, but can definitively say that an automated one is not. It's a cool trash can, but the Beagle knows how to go up to it and get it to automatically open for him.

We have a trash compactor in the kitchen, and our two puggles have yet to figure out how to get in there, unless someone leaves it open.....
All of our other small trash cans have had to be put up higher. On top of the toilets, and the laundry room counter, on my desk, etc. They have also figured out how to nose open the lid to get in the pedal opening trash cans. They are cute little stinkers though.....

I have this one www.simplehuman.com/40-litre-slim-step-can-grey-plastic There is a latch in the front that sort of undoes the handiness of step opening but it IS tested to be beagle proof as long as the humans remember to push the latch in.

I have a cunning little Jack Russell that was always getting into the trash to eat Kleenex, candy wrappers, what have you. (Our kitchen wastebasket is under the sink inside a cabinet.) When we were expecting DD, we registered for and got a Baby Trend Diaper Champ wastebasket that used regular plastic grocery sacks instead of the expensive special bags like the Diaper Genie. It never got used as a diaper pail because we never had space for a changing table and it was just as easy to throw the diapers in the kitchen trash. Fast forward a couple years. I thought about selling it on consignment but knew I would only get about half what it cost and it was still like brand new. And then it occurred to me that it would probably make an AWESOME dog proof wastebasket! And it has! It sits right next to my chair in the livingroom. I toss the trash in the top compartment, tilt the handle down and it drops into the enclosed bag inside. Tilt the handle back up, and the little top compartment is empty--nothing for the dog to get into or pull out. The bag is completely enclosed inside the wastebasket and the whole container latches closed so there is no way for him to get at the trash inside. Perfect solution! I'm so glad I didn't get rid of it! ETA: I just looked on Amazon and now they have an even bigger one than what I have that takes regular 13 gallon trash bags!

A Simple Human similar to the one Busypea linked was the only solution to keep our Belgian out of the trash. Before that, I used to keep a Costco jug of vinegar on top to thwart her somewhat. Expensive but will last forever.

Our Lab chewed through the child latch on the cabinet door once to get to the trash, also on steroids! Labs are always hungry anyway, but geez, Lab on steroids is truly frightening.
Other than that episode, under the sink with a child latch worked fine and was cheap.

Yeah, we have one that loves the trash as well. When we moved into our house we thought we had her as there was a cabinet for the garbage. Took her no less then 2 weeks to figure out how to open that cabinet. We now have a latch on it to keep her out. We also had to put the baby hooks on our lower cabinets or she would help herself to whatever she could find in them as well.

Our intelligent border collie helps our dimwitted beagle get into trash. We bought a SinpleHuman stainless trash can and it worked. We went through many trash cans previously.
