I'm up and down, don't have a "sitting all day job".
I move around quite a bit, fair to better health wise-nothing I take meds for or have any disease or illness. I don't have a regular exercise regimen.
My legs, specifically back of knees to my feet ache ALL THE TIME. Or what seems like all of the time. I notice it most when laying down or sitting, I never seem to think about it or feel achy if I'm standing or walking.
I do take 10,000 mg of Vitamin D every day (Doctor ordered) as well as 400 mg of magnesium oxide daily as I was having terrible shin cramps all the time (those have subsided rarely have them anymore) --I have follow up in March to see if the MagOx will be continued.
I describe my aching as it feels tight, but no swelling. Reminds me of "growing pains" or feeling like they have the flu! My ankles are not swollen either. We do have a storm coming tonight and today is particularly aching, I have noticed that when storms come in I *think* I hurt more.
The achy pain is solely on the backs of my legs, central to my knees and outward from there, sometimes feels like it is up the back of my thigh too. I am constantly stretching my legs pointing and pronating my foot to flex and stretch. It does not hurt when I stretch.
When on my feet all day- I will often take a soak in Epsom salts which feels great, albeit temporarily.
I'm at a loss as to why they ache so much!

When I had that feeling, it was my vit D. I was put on that HUGE mega does regimen to begin with, then tapered down to 2,000 a day. You probably need to have your labs done again.

I had the same problem with my legs and it was a vitamin D deficiency. 20-50 ng/mL is considered normal. Some drs will only take you to 25 ng/mL, but I do better when I'm above 30. When I was at 10, I could sleep my legs hurt so badly. Unfortunately, it takes weeks to bring your level up. Advil is my friend.

You might want to try some stretches, that seems to help me when my legs/hips are hurting.

Do you drink diet sodas? I had weird, constant leg pain in my feet and knees and shins when I drank Diet Coke reguarly. After removing all artificial sweeteners, the pains went away completely. I'm 100% certain it was the cause of my pain.

When my legs hurt like that, I find that I need new shoes, or better gel insoles.

I have that same pattern of pain. It's driving me crazy. I do stretch -- all the time. I'm thinking Vit D sounds like a likely reason for me. Everyone in the PNW is deficient, apparently.

I don't drink anything diet (it's been 30+ years) or sodas (more than 6 yrs since regular consumption) to begin with---I had read that regular soda (the phosphate causes joint pains in a lot of people). I drink water, coffee, tea, milk (none in excess).
I will occasionally drink a Regular Coke if I have a migraine, which is very rare.
I started to try to look up what it could be, but Googling it started to be worrisome!! Lol

Do you have arthritis? I have arthritis bad in both ankles and feet and I get leg pain occasionally.

Mag Citrate is a more easily absorbed/bio available form than mag oxide. Try switching your mag.

The backs of my legs - thighs and calves- have had a weird soreness for a few weeks but not all the time. I like in the PNW, too. I've never had my vitamin d levels checked - this is interesting.

I get that when my potassium is too low. It can be difficult to regulate the different minerals from Vit D and magnesium--if those are too high or low, it can throw off the potassium.
You should call your doctor this week and ask about getting your blood work early.

Could it be sciatica?

I would check if anything new that you are eating has aspartame or artificial sweetener in them. Even chewing gum. I figured out that this is a cause of making my already inflamed body feel worse. Also it gives me a restless leg type feeling and crampy feeling in my calfs. It is so uncomfortable.

Magnesium, potassium & D & calcium all kind of go together. If one is out, most likely all are.
Epsom salt soaks can help.

Eat a banana every day for the next week or so and see if it makes a difference. Sounds like your potassium might be off from the other supplements.

Try these. Changed my life. My feet and lower legs used to ache so badly that I couldn't sleep at night and a friend recommended these. My feet were out of whack, causing my legs to compensate, most likely due to decades of pointy toe high heels. These force perfect toe alignment and viola! No more pain! For $10 it's worth a shot, worked for me!

Eat a banana every day for the next week or so and see if it makes a difference. Sounds like your potassium might be off from the other supplements. I was going to a nutrition center & my dietary changes caused major leg issues. They suggested drinking a glass of V8 right away & a banana each day to see if that helped. Sure enough. My potassium levels were crazy low! Good luck. Hope you get relief soon!
