It's pretty awesome that Taylor Swift has matured from the "aw gee shucks, I can't believe this" young girl to a confident, self-possessed woman who is not afraid or ashamed to claim her accomplishments.

Great money-making speech. Now replace the word artist with teacher, or cop, or member of the military. I believe those are just 3 occupations where people invest heart and soul and deserve to be paid what they are worth. How music is accessed and how artists are paid is changing, and I doubt any fancy speeches will stop the progress of technology. And in the end, I believe people will continue to make music.

Being a west coaster I'm really disappointed that this started at 8:30 and ends at midnight. On a Monday. That's terrible.
So far I've seen Taylor Swift and the Weeknd. I'm not usually a big Weeknd fan but I actually really enjoyed his performance.

Maybe I'm just catching the repeat and I didn't know it. I didn't get off work until 6:30 today and barely turned the tv on at 8:45. I bet that's what happened.

OK. I'm totally NOT getting this Hamilton thing? what's the hype? A single Hamilton song does not work as well in isolation. Hamilton is a musical which tells the true story of Alexander Hamilton in rap and a few other styles. It's a bit like a modern operetta with very clever lyrics that tell a story that most of us don't really fully know. It brings history alive in a contagious, vibrant, unique manner. The soundtrack alone is fabulous, but I do think until you listen to several songs in a row, it is not easy to appreciate. I had to hear that opening number a few times before I picked up the whole story. That number is really just an introduction.

I didn't think I'd like the Hamilton song because there's no frame of reference. I can go either way with musicals generally. But that performance was really good! It was interesting and done well enough to keep my attention even though I don't know anything about the play.

I loved Hamilton and Gaga, but the winner of the night for me was Kendrick. I am a huge fan of his, so that helps, but I thought his performance was just mesmerizing.

Turned off my computer before Taylor won, and I was SOOOO happy she addressed DA Kanye!! vs skating over the issue. Esp when his people are putting out that she approved his BS or it was a joke, etc. Good for her! She is a proud, smart, accomplished woman. Even if you don't like her music, you have to give her that!!

Here's what I like about Taylor Swift... She always 'appears' genuinely pleased and congratulatory when others receive awards and they cut to her. She also always 'appears' to enjoy other artists performances. She can't possibly be aware every time cameras are going to show her. Wether or not it's real I don't care she makes the effort to at least make it appear so. And I can respect that. IMHO *someone* coukd take a few courtesy and image pointers from her. I said this almost word for word to my daughter. At first, when Ed Sheeran won the grammy and they cut to her reaction I thought maybe she misheard and thought it was hers. She seems to have incredible grace and humility.

I don't have the exact wording, but she was talking to young female artists about the difficulties they can encounter and should overcome, including something like, "People who will try to take credit for your fame." followed by a pregnant pause. ETA: Here it is.
For context, Kanye's gross lyric in his new album was "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that bitch famous." I didn't think I could think less of kanye. He's really quite the vile human being.

I just saw part of Gaga's tribute to David Bowie. At one point it looked like she was wearing false teeth to be more representative of him or was my mind playing tricks on me?

Who's the lead in Hamilton? Everyone cheered when he came out, but I've never seen him. Lin-Manuel Miranda... he wrote the show as well as starred in it. He is not only an amazing performer, song writer, story teller, he is really a good guy. I follow him on Twitter.. and he's the kind of guy you want as a bff.

I had front row mezzanine seats (best seats in the house at that theater) to An American in Paris last summer, and I only paid $150ish per ticket. Still a lot, but doable. I did a quick search for Hamilton tickets for March (which are only available resale, at this point), and rear mezzanine is going for just about $500 a seat. Those are resellers mostly businesses buying up the tickets and selling them for outrageous prices. I don't know why they allow it. Its robbery.

I missed this thread last night.
I loved the Sam Hunt/Carrie Underwood duo.
I thought Ellie Goulding sounded great but she has definitely done something to her lips and it's not good!
I couldn't last until Taylor's win but love that she had a great speech letting Kayne know where he stands!
I think she truly was happy for Ed Sheeran. As someone else posted, it's my understanding they are friends.
My 15 year old and I were discussing last night how she really seems to have a great time at these awards, win or lose, and that it's cool she has fun, dances, sings along.
I read that a mic fell over on the piano strings during Adele and that was the mess that happened there.
And Biebs - I can't hate him. I thought he did a good job last night.
Gaga was odd and strange and very Bowie-esque

I really liked the musical pairings of performers.
Kind of wished there were more awards actually presented. Maybe it's been that way on the show for a while; I don't watch it every year.
The Eagles tribute was great. I've re-watched the video, and it almost looks like Jackson forgot the words at one point. I loved hearing their sound, live, again. They looked sad, somber, I dunno. Lots of history within that group.
Adele ... sigh. It could have been so much better.
Hamilton ... wasn't wowed. Watched it again today, and I liked it better. I would see a touring company, but no way would I pay the Broadway prices for the show.
Was there some glitch when Beyoncé announced Bruno's name? It sounded like he yelled before it was announced.

Also with Ed Sheeran, this was the 4th year in a row he has been nominated for a Grammy with no wins. So I also think Taylor was excited for him, knowing how many times he went home without in prior years.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good show...I liked all the performances, even the ones I couldn't understand the words to and I never thought I would cry while watching the Grammy's but seeing the Eagles on stage without Glenn did me in. I adore The Weeknd and have even dragged my DH, who is strictly a rock guy, into liking his music too. He still says he hates his hair, but I told him to get over it...it is weird, but who cares? His voice and music style are awesome. I was glad to see that Muse won for "Drones" in the Rock album category, but did NOT agree with Alabama Shakes winning over the Foo Fighters.
