I watched a documentary on Amazon Prime the other day on Agatha Christie. I knew about her mysterious disappearance following her husband's confession of infidelity and desire for divorce--in the mid 20s. I've always loved detective stories and murder mysteries.
So I started watching Poirot on Netflix and then wanted to watch Miss Marple. That series wasn't available for Amazon Prime customers for free.
There was a free month trial for Acorn TV--which is all British television--$5 a month.
I've been binge watching Miss Marple all weekend, and the series is so good. Each episode is close to 2 hours, but they are so well done and full of cameos of well known British actors--including a very young Benedict Cumberbatch.
Agatha Christie was a nurse during the First World War. She worked in the dispensary, so she knew a lot of medications and poisonings. Her accurate descriptions of poisonings has been lauded. She also lost her father very early in life and watched her mother struggle financially. Many of the murders in the series have money as the root cause.
I just love British television. I love the wit, drama, and attention to detail. I also love that the women look like real women and not like lollipop headed stick figures that stopped aging at 30.
Acorn TV doesn't have Dr. Who, but they have a huge selection. They also have the Australian series Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. Perhaps Acorn TV will have the 3rd season before Netflix.

I also really like Acorn TV. I usually watch it when I can't find anything to watch on cable.

LOVE my Acorn TV! If you are an Anglophile, like me it is essential.

I absolutely love Miss Marple and Poirot. I wish they would make a new movie of 'Ten Little Indians' (or whatever would be politically correct to call that story these days, I believe the original title had the n-word in it). There is a movie adaptation from 1965, but it's such a great story I hope they remake it. It's a stand-alone book, none of Agatha's famous sleuths.

On Lifetime next month there will be a new And Then There Were None aka 10 Little Indians. I love Agatha Christie, every January I hold my own little Agatha appreciation month by reading as many of her books as I can. Still love The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. This year one of the books I read was Murder on the Orient Express. All I could picture was the film in my head so I had to go and buy the DVD, lol. I might have picked up a couple of other movies too

I love Agatha as well. Has anyone watched any of the "Partners in Crime" series? I am considering a trial just to watch it. Our PBS channels have a lot of my favorites, but they abruptly change their schedules and then you are all ready to spend Monday night with Miss Fisher but you get "All Creatures Great and Small" humph.
