I am looking for help with hotels in that area. It does not appear to be near Michigan Ave.... I was hoping to take the train and stay on Michigan ave and cab it to the Hospital but now I am wondering if that's to far of a cab ride.
Can someone help with hotels in that area?
the address is 801 Paulina Street

I went to UIC. The medical campus is just a bit further west and I spent a fair amount of time there. It's not a bad cab ride from Michigan Ave- and even cheaper if you're comfortable taking Uber. There are also some great bus routes that run straight from Michigan Avenue over to UIC/UIC Medical Campus. Once you get comfortable with the busses, they are a pretty good option that take you right to the block you need (vs walking from the train). Crowded at rush hour though, but so are the trains.
The closest decent hotels will probably be Greektown/West loop. It does look like there's a Marriott right next to the UIC Medical campus, but if you want to enjoy Chicago, you'll be better off with your original plan. It has gotten better, but once you get right outside the medical campus, it isn't a great area of Chicago. Nothing to be scared of but probably not where you want to hang out. It depends if your priority is staying close to the hospital or doing more of a mix.
There's a Crowne Plaza near I-90 and Madison that would have some decent restaurants and other things in walking distance, but be a shorter cab ride from the hotel to the hospital. I believe it is just a couple blocks to a Blue Line stop. You'd probably end up spending just as much on cabs though cabbing over to shopping/tourist areas.
I'd recommend staying wherever you want and taking either the cab or the Blue line to the hospital, depending on your comfort level and concern about cost. UIC Medical Campus isn't that far outside the loop/downtown, maybe 15 minutes, 20 in super bad traffic.
What month are you going? If you're okay with not knowing the specific hotel, you can get some killer deals on hotel rooms via Priceline bidding from now until about mid-April. You can narrow it to Loop/Mag Mile/Millennium park only and those are all fine areas to stay in with easy access to the more "tourist" areas of the city. I used to live in Chicago and then for 3 - 4 years traveled there 8 - 10 times a year for work so I have a pretty good grasp on getting around without a car, hotel options, local traffic, UIC, etc.

Thanks AN. I don't know about the month yet, we are waiting for the referral process to go thru. But you have helped me a lot.

The Pink line train will take you right there. It is great during the day, but packed at rush hour.
DH and I visit the cancer center at UIC every 3 weeks. Because we fly in and out of Midway, we stay at the Midway hotel center. It's about an hour train ride from Midway.
There are great restaurants on Taylor within about 4 blocks of where you will be. Our FAVE is Sweet Maple Café for breakfast/lunch. Rosebud is an amazing Italian place. There is a Starbucks, too. Plus, the train station has Dunkin' Donuts. That is a thrill for this MN girl, as we don't have one in Minneapolis.
Feel free to PM me.

Ohhh, Pink Line... they added that after I graduated. Sounds like mikklynn has really recent, personal experience - listen to her!
