My mother is 77- tv reception is poor at her house, and she won't get cable. Need to buy her shows on DVD, and having a mental block. No Netflix- no internet.
Shows she has recently enjoyed - JAG (she also liked it when it was actually on TV), White Collar, In Plain Sight. She did not enjoy Covert Affairs.
She does not enjoy lots of gratuitous sex/violence. Any thoughts - I am just drawing a huge blank here..... Thanks

I think Castle is a great suggestion. I love that show. Downton Abbey would be my other suggestion.

Based on White Collar and In Plain Sight, what about Burn Notice? I love all those shows and also disliked Covert Affairs. I also agree, about Alias and NCIS. Would Psych be to silly for her? And considering I apparently have the same taste as a woman 30+ years my senior, what about my favorite-Matlock? Madmen may be too much sex, even though it isn't seen a whole lot is implied.

House of Cards The first season was pretty racy, wasn't it? Granted, the stuff doesn't bother me, but the op did say her mom doesn't like gratuitous nudity.

My first suggestion was Castle but I like the ideas of Alias and Burn Notice too. What about Leverage?

West wing, hands down. There are 8 seasons, so that's a lot of tv
I've recently started binging Castle.

Doc Martin Gilmore Girls
The Darling Buds of May
This was a series on UK tv back in the 90s and stars a very young Catherine Zeta Jones. Not sure if you can get a format that plays in the US but if you can it is enjoyable.
Amazon The Darling Buds Of May is a family drama series which presents the Larkin family as they celebrate love, romance and family life in the idyllic British countryside. Despite never paying their bills, the Larkins manage to live in considerable comfort and affluence on their 22-acre property in Kent.

I know you said no Netflix-no internet. Just throwing it out there that you can still do the DVD option on Netflix, no streaming plan needed. We have done this for several years for my MIL. I have the account set up in my name and I manage her queue. She has never touched a computer and has no idea how it works, but she can put the dvd in the mailbox, lol. She keeps a handwritten list of any movies or shows she hears of and we update her queue with them. We also add shows and movie we think she would like with pretty good feedback usually. After 5 years, it is still the best gift we have ever given her, she loves it.
