I ordered some stuff online from Kohls and returned 4 things. First of all, they are the only store that I actually had to go to the post office to mail it back, every other store I order from gives me a printed label. Haven't been to the post office in a long time. Anyway so I know for a fact I put 4 items back in the envelope yet they only show that I returned 3. I called them and had little confidence in the employee I spoke with. She had my order number yet I went round and round repeating what was lost but she never understood. She said she would open a ticket to investigate. But I think what happened was the person who opened the envelope just didn't notice it inside the envelope or two items were stuck together. I don't think it's going to show up later, it got lost in that first handling. It's not a high-cost item, but I'm just wondering has anyone else experienced this and what did the store do?

Once with Lands End and once with Zappos. Both times they had actually received the item but for some reason the return credit was not issued. Both companies were very apologetic and fixed it immediately when I called to see what happened.

I returned something to the Steal Network once because it it didn't fit right.
After I didn't get a credit for 2 weeks, I called them.
They said they 'didn't accept returns' but would go ahead and give me the credit.
I was like, "What they heck were you doing with/thinking about my return?!"
Were you just going to ignore it until I emailed you?
Anyway, I hesitate to buy things now from them now for several reasons, but that is one of them!

I ordered 4 items from Lucky Brand and sent two back. Of course I didn't send it insured/traceable and it got lost. (That's the last time I do that...) I emailed them to inquire if they had received the return, they said no and asked for the tracking number, I replied that I didn't have one and I guess I'd have to accept the loss. A couple of weeks later I emailed them one more time just asking if it had by chance shown up in the meantime. That time they replied that they would issue a refund, and they did. I am very grateful - they didn't have to just take my word for it, but they did. It was over $100.

I only order clothing and shoes from websites where I can make a return in person at a store. I refuse to mess with mailing back returns. There are just too many other, easier options.

Can you check the weight? Your receipt from the PO would have the weight of the package. See what the weight of just 3 items would be if you can, and argue from there!
