WHAT is this?? Asking because Suet is something we put out for the birds..... Not JoP but another Brit answering. Here in the UK we use beef or vegetable suet to make what we call a suet crust pastry. Just mixed with flour and water it produces a very light fluffy pastry top for things like chicken pie, steak pie or steak and kidney pie. We also use it to make lovely fluffy dumplings. It has to rank as my favourite pastry top for the type of pies mentioned!

My family is finally back together so I guess I gotta start rattling my pots and pans again!
Tonight I am making steaks on the grill, baked potatoes, asparagus and a banana pudding for desert.

I'm thinking Boudin's clam chowder since the weather has cooled off today. With a spinach salad (Trader Joe's) and some kind of bread for DH and DS. I'm also making chicken stock from a rotisserie chicken I used yesterday for Chinese chicken salad. I always make turkey stock and it never occurred to me to make chicken stock. Duh! So chicken noodle soup in on the horizon.

I would be in trouble because my favorite meals in the winter time are soups and gumbos. Thank goodness DH and DS agree!

I took meatballs and red sauce out of the freezer. DH will have pasta noodles and I will have Zoodles with mine. A salad and bread for DH will round out the meal.

Thanks for the description Ladies!! So I am thinking it is sort of like our Crisco Solid Shortening maybe? Well, the vegetable version is - but it's shredded and sold in 200g (8 oz) packets rather than a block. The beef suet (as originally used) is premium shredded fat from beef in packets, not a block. The brand mentioned by JoP , Atora, has been used here since the 1800s. Its a very British thing I think so really hard to describe but it makes a much fluffier and lighter crust than the fat normally used for pastry. It isn't rubbed into the flour just added and then mixed with water as usual.

Leftover pulled pork sliders from Monday with cole slaw and chips. No work involved other than ds asked me to please toast the buns with butter on them, so I will do that for my baby - who will be 18 2 weeks from tomorrow!

Sigh! It's hard seeing them grow so fast. Mine will be 6 and 4 in less than a month. You're a great Grandma Thank you, and I believe your almost-6yo and my almost-7yo share a birthday, too. We will get them together for a play date one of these days! I believe so. L's is the 11th and J's is the 14th

Thank goodness DH and DS agree! well the kid who says this to me all the time came home early unexpectedly - and polished off a bowl of this soup as did 2 of his friends LOL So I guess it couldn't have been too bad although he still reminded me that soup is not a meal

Oh happy day, I was home today and had time to cook. I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes. My meatloaf is just a basic meatloaf but I put a ketchup/brown sugar/apple cider vinegar topping on it that makes it very tasty. Can't wait for meatloaf sandwiches tomorrow!

We're having leftover chicken & roasted vegetables...cauliflower, broccoli, and asparagus...there were way more vegetables in the drawer than I was expecting. The funny thing is that I was intending to roast cabbage but DH bought red cabbage instead of green and I wasn't in the mood for red cabbage. So, roasted vegetable surprise for dinner, woohoo!

We've had some drops but nothing much yet. I'm hoping it rains all night and gets cooler.

The rain, not the skylight. Well, the skylight is probably heavy too.

I had to go to Costco to get a couple of things, so I got some of their buffalo wings for dinner. No vegies, no salad, just buffalo wings.

Well, the skylight is probably heavy too. It hit here (1/2 hour north of cadoodlebug) about 5:15, right when we were leaving the house, and it hit hard. Still drippy out there now at 10:00 pm. It was windy here all day, too. Actually, I think there was some kind of high wind warning for the whole Bay Area all day today. lorieann13
