As in coming out on occasion, but keeping her distance? Or is she in hiding, only coming out at night to use the litter box and feed?

She is back to her old self. She's sticking to her regular hiding spot and coming out occasionally. On the vet's recommendation, I've been petting her (with gloves on) every day and she does not like that at all so she has not been playing whap with me, I pretty much get the death glare all the time. But she's back to snuggling with Dobby and talking when she's irritated or wants company.

Awesome...it's not necessarily "normal" but quite normal for Trixie. Good news!

Sarah, you might try petting her with grooming gloves on (the textured ones for cats that hate to be brushed). Our unsocial kitty even likes having her back and tummy rubbed with those and it has the bonus of getting all the loose fur off without being clawed to pieces if I try brushing her. If you can find a treat she likes (even if it's just some plain cooked chicken or turkey), offer it to her after every petting session. That way she associates the petting with something positive.
Glad things are going okay with her after her scary experience.

Why did the vet say to use gloves? I missed that part of the story!

Right now I'm using thick leather work gloves and a thick long sleeve sweatshirt because she tries to scratch and bite me. She will not take or eat any food or treats that I give her or leave in her space. She is a very stubborn cat!

I'm so glad she's back to normal! (For her) She'll end up loving you in the end. It takes feral cats a long time.

There is a feral cat in my neighborhood. I call him Tom Cat. He is the one with his leg hanging off the couch. Oreo is my cat. I don't know how he survives because he has all kinds of scratch wounds and an eye injury that acts up. But, he is smart enough to avoid traps. Several of us feed him. But, he comes into my house. He will sleep on my guest bed for hours at a time. He will tolerate one or two pets but you can't pick him up. He doesn't like that. But, for a feral cat, he is very calm.

In reality though, I put a muzzle on her to trim her nails. (since that was easier to purchase than a shark suit)

I'm so glad that Trixie is almost back to her old self. I hope she picks whack up again soon. You are a lovely person to take such good care of her.

AWWW..... Cute picture Spiffie! We have a feral kitten who adopted our tom cat, who adopted us 10 years or so ago! The tom cat has taught this kitten to use our doggie door and everything! Since he started coming around as a kitten, he does let us pick him up, but he does not like to be held for too long. And he will have those wild feral freak outs that is totally part of his DNA. We love him to pieces!

Lovely to hear she's back to her normal self. My Archie was feral, with his brother, and it took a long time before we could actually touch him. My arms were covered in scratches for months. He would hiss and hide whenever we went near him. He's two now and still doesn't like being picked up and he won't sit on my knee but he will talk to me and loves being stroked and scratched under the chin. He purrs a lot and loves rubbing against our GSD and nibbling his ears! He has become really affectionate just this last month or so and it's so been worth it.

I just know that eventually Trixie is going to trust you enough to become a loving cat. I'm so thankful that they have you!

We have a cat that after 10 years still won't come up to us...the only one of ours I've experienced to that extent. Funny thing though, is she always comes to the top of stairs and cries for me...and will let me put my hand under a door to her, but not touch. I do get a hold of her once a month for nails & brushing, but not easy. I think she only lets me do it because she is in catatonic terror & snaps out of it when done & runs.

I'm glad she's back to her old self. My cats are the opposite -- you can't get rid of them. We call them annoy-a-cat and pest-a-kitty. I just tweezed a deer tick off pest-a-kitty's lip about 2 minutes ago, and he just lay there on his back and purred. Weirdo.

I like the updates too. There is hope. My one dumpster diving kitty was so freaked out when we first brought her home. She does occasionally walk across my lap now, but she never curls up with any of us. She does lie on my dh's pillow when he gets out of bed in the morning now. And lastly, she has never tried to get out of the house. When the other cat tries to make a mad dash, Alice just looks at her like she's crazy for even attempting to go outside. I am sure somewhere deep inside Trixie is grateful, very grateful for your kindness and attention. Oh and for regular meals.

So glad Trixie's doing better! I have never been around cats, but I had a really cool experience a couple of weeks ago. I was in a busy parking lot near a hospital and saw a little kitten in between 2 parked cars scrounging for food, obviously a stray. I was worried about it getting run over, so I went straight into the place of business where I was going and told them about the kitten. The place of business had no interest in helping out with the kitty, so even though I was nervous about picking the kitty up because I know almost nothing about cats, I did and brought him home with the help of my five year old. He was very sweet, but I knew I couldn't keep him because my dh is allergic to cats. Anyway, long story short, I ended up finding a foster that very day that ended up being his home sweet home! Now he belongs to an eight year old who dotes on him. It makes me so happy that it all worked out so well. At first we thought it was a girl and named her Zinnia, but later on figured out he was a boy, so I no longer know his name. I had just found out that my friend who took him liked cats 5 days before I found him. It was meant to be!
