Has anyone ever dislocated a hip? We got a new puppy and have a baby gate on the stairs. stupid clumsy me tried to step over it instead of opening it and my foot caught and I fell. I didn't realize at the time (2/8/16) that I did it that it was dislocated. I was afraid I had cracked something in my hip joint because I could hardly bear weight on it. I went to the urgent care the next day (my doctors office told me that they couldn't get me in until the following week) and they did x-rays and everything looked good. told me I probably strained or sprained it or tore some ligaments. the rest of that day weight bearing was very painful. like I felt like I needed crutches painful. I was told to rest it and ice it.
toward the end of the day, it started to feel better and I realized that it had probably gotten dislocated because it felt like it went back in place. I didn't actually feel that happen, I am assuming that it did because it felt so much better. now, every once in a while, it really hurts to walk on it and I will be limping around for a few hours, but then I will sit for a bit, then get out of my chair at work and it will feel completely normal. I am continuing to do daily activities and work out if it feels good.
I am wondering if I am doing damage to it by not completely babying it for a while. I haven't gone back to the doctor because of the randomness of the pain being there and then being gone.
if you have had this happen, what can I expect? do I need to see the doctor again or does it just take time to heal?

I've never had a dislocated hip so I can't answer that for you. But I did want to say I'm sorry and I hope it heals quickly and without too much pain.
We have baby dog gates and I worry about doing the same thing. I try to make sure I pay attention, but I know myself and I can/will get distracted.

Ouch...sounds painful! I'd probably follow up if it still hurts after a couple of weeks.

Oh, ouch! I would do a follow up with an orthopedic specialist. I would want assurance everything was healing.

If your hip was dislocated they would have seen it on the xray. Your leg also would have been shortened and rotated. You may have torn a tendon, or labrum though, and it got hung up? or caught? and at some point it released?. The only way they could see that is via MRI. If you cont to have problems I would see an ortho. Do NOT mess with a reg family or GP Dr.

That sounds about right although I did some research and symptoms include hitching or catching in the hip. I don't feel that. Just pain or no pain. However, I'm going to try to get into an orthopedic soon.
Two peas rocks!!!

I fell out of my truck and landed on the cement floor on my hip. Doctor said it could take up to six months to heal because of deep bruising. I don't remember exactly how long, but it felt like a long time!
