I'm not sure exactly when the serious gray started or how gray it is overall because I've been coloring my hair since college. Based on the half inch of roots that shows before I recolored, I'd say I'm about 30 percent gray now. I'm 43.

Genetics, started going grey when I was 16, colored my hair for years and years, now I'm 66 and have been naturally silver for over 3 years and love it! It had reached a point where I was needed to color my hair every 3 weeks, too much $$$, too mush time wasted sitting in a chair. So I embraced the silver and I get compliments all the time.

I'm turning 47 soon and having surprising little grey hair. My husband is 47 and half of his head is grey! I'm thankful I don't have too much grey though because I have a super sensitive scalp and don't think I can color it. I used to color it occasionally when I was younger but the scalp issue developed after I turned 40 possibly due to hypothyroidism (which I found out about last year).

Sorry. I didn't get to type all I wanted because I'm on my phone and avoiding my inlaws. It wasn't really what anyone here said but more the general perception through words and phrases that women who choose gray have let themselves go and given up on caring about their appearance. And although YOUR words may not mean that, you can't deny that general perception. No, I definitely agree with you, there.

I am 48 and no signs of gray yet. My dad died at 63 with no gray so I am glad I take after him rather than my mom who went grey at about 30. When I start to go gray I will definitely colour.

I found my first gray hairs at 17 and immediately started coloring it. The grey started to get worse in my mid-20s and I started to color my hair every 5-6 weeks. Last year at the age of 34, I decided to see what my grey looks like. It's not completely grown out yet, but I like the way it's coming in. I have thick streaks of white that frame my face (think Rogue from Xmen), the rest is a salt and pepper mix. I've had a lot of people compliment me and ask how I dyed my white streaks around my face. LOL! I am lucky that my white hairs are soft, so I really like the way my grey/white is coming in. I have no plans to dye them again.

I've been getting grey hairs since I was 25. My mom was almost completely grey by 30.
DH was lightly salt & pepper when we got married - he was 27. And now at 49 is pretty much all grey/white with some black specks thrown in.
My oldest is 20, and has already had grey hairs. She bleaches her dark hair completely out and is currently silver/purple.
Genetically my kids are screwed - both parents were going grey before 30, so most likely they will as well!

I was just talking about this with my stylist the other night! Currently I have highlights, but am noticing more and more grey around my temples- my stylist commented on it and I half jokingly said I may just let the grey take over to which she replied "oh no you will not!". I will be 48 this year- my mom has warned me to hold off on dying it as long as I can (she dyes and highlights hers). My grandmother on my dad's side had beautiful silver grey hair and I don't recall my mother's mother having much grey at all (probably because she colored it!)

I started getting random greys in high school.
I'm in my mid-thirties now, and have a fair amount of grey around my face, and probably more in the back.
I'm not dyeing for now. I don't want to get in a position of having to keep up. And I think seeing an inch of the grey roots with obviously dyed rest of hair looks stupid.
