At JCPenney. No brand preference. You must open the package a bit and do a feel test. On sale does help. And I read that 1000+ thread count really is not better since it is a marketing ploy.
And pillowcases will cost as much as the sheet set. I hate that!

Peacock Alley sheets at Tuesday Morning. Cost about $$100 for a king set. Thread count not as important as the quality of cotton. The longer the cotton fiber, the smoother and softer the fabric. This means also that the best cotton will cost more. Really good cotton get softer with age.

I'm pretty cheap about that stuff and get mine from Ikea. I like the feel of them just fine. SO, on the other hand likes PB ones. I like them too, but I just don't feel like they are worth the money they charge.

Target! I buy the top Fieldcrest sheets. Soooooo worth the cost and they do go on sale often. You can get a queen set for $50-60 on sale.
They wash up so nice, are smooth, have a deep pocket, and feel sooooo good especially in the summer.

I guess it depends what you like in sheets.
I prefer sheets that are crisp and cool. I don't like sheets that are too thick or too warm or too soft. I like sheets that are the crisp, thin cotton of a men's dress shirt, not the thick kind of more expensive sheets.
I prefer sheets from target and Walmart, personally.

I found a nice, affordable set at Bed Bath and Beyond recently. They are thin and cool. I prefer pure white sheets so I can bleach them in each wash. I have always gotten my sheets at BB&B because they have lots of different brands and price points. Mine came with the fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases for around $60.

Sheets that have high thread count are going to be heavy. When you have 600-800+ threads per square inch, you have a heavy sheet. Some of these are more like table cloth material. I prefer sheets with 300-350 threads per square inch from Egyptian cotton.

I like The Big Ones sheets from Kohl's. I like my sheets crisp and these are the perfect combination of crisp while still being soft. They go on sale all the time.

Percale sheets are crisp and cool. I have a set of Martha Stewart percale that I got on sale at Macy's that I love. They are a little wrinkled out of the dryer, but I don't care. So lovely to sleep in.

I love my LL Bean percale sheets. I don't know why I've had so much trouble finding king sheets that fit, because I never had as much trouble finding queen bedding that fit. So after a few false starts, the LL Bean sheets are working well for us.
