I have hit a bit of a brick wall - I am working on locating by father's biological father and am researching a family with whom I share DNA (from ancestry). I am searching for information for William Homer Terry in the Amarillo, TX area. Born in Dec 13 1928. Died Oct 1986. I located him on the SSDI. I am looking for any information on him beyond the 1940 census. I located him on the SSDI, but can't find an obituary or any other information.
If you want to take a look - I'd love some fresh eyes!
Thanks! Michelle

Newspaper.com has 77 matches for Texas, 1928-1986, with the name "William H Terry", (and 712 with just "William Terry") but without any other details, it's difficult for me to tell if any are him. You can subscribe to them for one month at a time if you want to look into it, or if you'd like to PM me, I can try to narrow things down for you.

Hi Michelle, Do you have an ancestry.com account? I found a pic of his headstone, I'm happy to put a photo here if you like (and if I can figure out how!) It shows his nickname as "Chubb" and he is buried at Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock, TX, which is an hour and half from Amarillo, TX. There are also photos of him, the photos look quite old. Amy

Yes, findagrave.com has the grave info. No ancestry account needed for just that. Findagrave is a free site. But it does not have the photos of him. Your public library may have a subscription to ancestry you can use, though if you don't have one.

Find-a-grave mentions a spouse, and when you click on her link it gives you an obituary for her, which still may be helpful to you.
It also provides another name to search for in newspapers.

I may have just found an obituary for William Homer's father. It also mentions Shamrock, TX. I'll see if I can send you the clipping in a message.

I tried searching just Amarillo papers, and I received hits, but with older papers, names were often abbreviated, so you have to search for William H Terry, Wm H Terry, W H Terry, Wm Terry, etc., and I just don't know if anything I bring up is really him.
Plus, many times the hits will actually bring up the wife, as Mrs. "W H Terry" for instance.

If you have an ancestry account, have you messaged the family members who posted pictures? One appears to be his daughter.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your time and sleuthing! I am certain these are all the person I was asking about. Unfortunately all I have right now is a hunch and a couple of 3rd cousin DNA matches connecting me to the Terry family line. Nothing concrete to connect me to this man. I have located some of his family on Ancestry but I don't feel comfortable contacting them wit so little information.
The peas are awesome. Thank you again for all your help!
