The cutting program suggested a different blade depth yesterday. I used the ratchet to change the blade from 3 to 7 --- when I got to about six, the "resistance" of the ratchet felt less, and the blade seemed to "slide" into the 7 position without any resistance. Then, the cut was bad.
I examined the blade -- set at 7, the blade was barely showing. I took off the white end cap - the area was clear. I reassembled the blade into the housing. I set it back at 3 -- feeling "resistance" at the lower setting. I removed the blade ... and there didn't seem to be much, if any, difference in how much blade was showing
So -- can a blade work at a lower setting and NOT work at a higher setting? Does anyone thing that the "ratchet thing" didn't work -- and didn't extend the blade -- or is the blade is broken (no resistance)
Any ideas?

That does not sound like it is working properly. I would call or email SA and try and return it or ask for a replacement.

Thanks -- they responded ... asking for a photo of the blade with the cap on and antoher with the cap off. Then they responded with a request for a video of the problem in action! I don't think the problem is something that could be reflected in a video -- it is a "feeling" thing and "sound" thing when setting the blade .
I have been seriously unimpressed with their customer service in the "technical-hardware" arena!
I think I'm going to send them a video of my fingers moving the blade in the ratchet hole. (That is, of course, when I learn how to do a video!!) I'm sure that will give them a real picture of my problem!
