I ran across this on Pinterest & would like to make these for our Women's Fellowship Christmas Fair. The pin linked over to a flickr picture with no info attached. I tried Googling, but am not getting specific hits on this type of display. It looks like 3 liter soda bottles with the thread part and the bottom cut off and then spray painted. Any ideas, input or knowledge on something like this? TIA Attachment Deleted

When I enlarged the photo the material looked a little thicker than a plastic bottle. It almost looks ceramic.
But your idea with the bottle sounds great. Why not give one a try and see how it looks.

yeah, I believe those are plastic pendant light shades, possibly from ikea? the neck shape of them looks all wrong to me to be a soda bottle.
ETA could't find shades like that, but I did see a lot of wine bottle necklace displays, both whole bottles and ones cut down. you could spray paint those white/off white to make a consistent backdrop and showcase the necklaces.

They definitely look either ceramic, or the plastic bottle is maybe covered with papier mâché then painted? They look great.

The necks are way to long to be soda bottles with the cap end cut off. I think they look more like glass or ceramic than plastic. My guess would be a light shade of some kind.

I pulled your photo into photoshop. Those are WAY thicker than a bottle of any kind I can think of. Even old fashioned glass milk jugs weren't that thick.

I think hanging the necklaces on used wine bottles, not painted, or ones even spray painted would be super cool!!

Even though the original photo wasn't soda bottles I don't know why you can't make your's out of soda bottle. It won't take much to make a prototype and see how it looks.
It won't look exactly the same because the necks on most soft drink bottles are shorter but that doesn't mean it won't work at all.

Take a look at the salong vase from IKEA, they look similar in shape.

I was going to suggest Ikea too. and I'm not sure if you have them in the States, but Orangina-bottles? With a coat of spray paint?

They do look like vases. It may be worth a trip to Dollar Tree to see if they have anything you can use. When you look at things make sure you consider what they would look like upside down as well in case that is better.

I just had a thought. It's not the same shape but it could work. Dollar Tree usually sells plastic megaphones in the toy department. I know that Target has them because I just saw one last week.

These orangia bottles will look great painted. I've just painted 70 bottles in pastel colours and they look pretty good.

I too would try painting a soda bottle. They should stack up nicely and not take up too much space. It is worth the try anyway.

I would try the soda bottle idea and spray paint it. I would figure a way to weight them down because once the wind blows it will fall over or if people go to take the necklace off to try it on it may tip over.
Good luck!
