My vote is for #1 ... but can't you find something here in Canada? Apparently there is a really great formal wear store at Cross Iron Mills That formal wear store is WAY too formal for this wedding. The plus sized stores around here - the only dresses I have found there in the last year are maxi dresses, or skirts.

I am fully plus sized and I would go for the waist bands all the way. It's all in how you are built. I'm an hour glass and the emphasis on the waist would be flattering on me. Which leads me to an important question: what's your body type? That makes a huge difference in what dress I would choose. Dresses 1,3,4 may not be flattering if you are chest heavy. (I mean your chest is bigger than your hips, not just large.) If you are large chested at all, I wouldn't go with 4. If you have an hour glass shape 1,2, and 3 would all be pretty. I like 2 because it would be the most flattering on a larger chest which a lot of plus sized women have. I had the same thought/question. Do you have great arms? All these dresses emphasize the arms - and in August you might not want to wear a separate wrap. If you're one who carries your weight in hips and thighs - I like 2 the best. If you are at all in the apple realm - the emphasis on your waist might not be your friend. All these are pretty short so make sure you're very comfortable with your legs - that or you're exceptionally short. I don't have great arms. They're big. But if I feel I need it, I have a very lightweight white shrug I can wear. My legs are not bad, considering I'm overweight. I don't carry my weight in my hips and thighs. More so just above my hips. I am more straight than apple, pear or hourglass.

I was just looking for a nice dress recently in Canada and what a nightmare it was. I ended up buying a Kiyonna dress- which ended up being more than i wanted to pay (100 U.S.) I have bought a few of their dresses now and everyone of them are so flattering. I was going to order online but ended up finding a boutique that carried them here. Their website lists places in Canada that carry them. I like the first dress the best if you can pull off the high neckline. I can't so would go with something like the third one. Watch the length of the dresses- modcloth really runs short I find. I am tall, so most of their dresses end up as minis on me, so even 5'5 or 5'6, I would be wary and read the reviews well!

I have the iced tea dress, and #3 but in purple. love them both! I've worn the iced tea dress to a wedding, it was a semi-casual summer one. it does come off kinda casual. it's not a dark navy. it can be dressed up with jewelry sure. it's also a touch short for me, i'm 5'4 but i'm a little chunky. they have awesome skirt extenders with lace that look nice underneath, I own them in ivory and dusty rose. the "love your dress" is also one of those ones that is pretty casual.. you could dress it up, but it's always going to be a plain jersey dress, tho styled nicely. if that suits the style of the wedding, go for it. the windy city dress has been on my wishlist for years, I think the sheerness of the top layer is better suited for dressier occasions. the high neck wouldn't bother me, unless you are in a place where may is already really hot. yikes. if it's short on you and you're 5'4", that won't be great for me, as I'm 5'8".

I'm 5'3" and the I Love Your Dress dress comes to about an inch below my knee so it would probably be a good length on you. I really want to find someone to hem it as it hits at an awkward spot on me.

I'll take a closer look around on the site though. I did find a longer one I liked at Modcloth (just past knees), but the fabric had a silly pattern on it, and I don't really want something like that (1) for a wedding, even though it's a casual wedding; or (2) my age - I'd feel silly with ballerinas on my dress!

Look at Talbots. Their dresses are nicely made and often lined. Knit dresses aren't the tissue knits that show every lump and bump. They are made to skim over a woman's body. The fit and flare dresses are very flattering and come in woman's petite if that what you need. I'll like a few dresses when I get to my computer. And dresses are on sale right now. Are the fit of Talbots dresses true to size? We have a couple of their stores in Calgary. I will check those out.

Yes, I saw that one and read the great reviews. My only thought was that the back might be a bit low and might show the back strap of my bra. I really don't want to have to shop for a special kind of bra because I am super hard to fit - not very large breasted but wide around. I have only ever found one brand and style of bra that fits properly and is comfortable.

I love the one kelkeller picked but honestly don't think any of the ones you chose would be very flattering. And I'm on the small end of plus sized & 5'9 - i wouldn't consider any of them for me. What about this one? curvalicious Gaby dress Or they had other cute ones on their website. Personally I'd be looking at maxi dresses, they are great for summer & you can wear flat sandals or low heels with them

Are the fit of Talbots dresses true to size? We have a couple of their stores in Calgary. I will check those out. I'd say their sizing is pretty consistent, but go by their size chart. I wear a smaller dress size because I'm hippy. So I need a larger pant size than I do dress size. If you can try on the dresses, even better. The saleswomen are really good about telling you what is flattering and picking out what they think will look good on you. Why not get a nice dress (and some of the Talbot's dresses are on sale for cheaper than the Modcloth dresses) that you can pull out for years to come and look great in it? As a bonus, you won't be constantly pulling on the dress because the skirt is short and you are worried about it riding up. The website shows that your entire purchase is 25% off through March 6. At least in the US...

I would say no to Windy City, the high neck and arm cut may not be flattering on a plus size(and I am plus sized so no judgement!).. that neck could emphasize a double chin if you have one and that is probably the least flattering sleeveless cut for bigger girls(and by bigger I mean you don't have arms like Michelle Obama). I would also say no to Ice Tea it's too fussy and the lace can read young, not to mention lace is on it's way out and it might date the dress too soon and make it so you won't wear it again.
My favorite is I Love Your Dress, of the 4 this one has the best sleeveless cut for hiding side bra spillage and underarm overfill, the waist hits at a good spot for slimming(unless you are apple shaped then this might not be the best choice). The fabric looks easy to care for, easy to wear and cool, which will be important outside in the middle of summer. Second choice would be V.I.P. but that fabric is a bit more structured so less room to breath and move and maybe a bit hotter. I don't think this one will be as slimming as the ILYD.
Thank you for sharing your picks though! I am ordering the ILYD, I have been on the lookout for new wedding clothes for this season and this will be perfect!

I think they're all really nice, but my pick would be #2 then #1. I'd be concerned about the length of all of them. I'm not quite plus size but definitely overweight (mainly my lower half), and I wouldn't wear anything that comes above the knee. The first and last dress have photos of larger women wearing the dress, and both of the dresses are above the knee. That would rule them out immediately for me. This, plus, I personally wouldn't wear something sleeveless because then I'd need to have a shrug or a wrap and who wants to have to wear one of those in the summer? I'm just one of those that feels that you have to have your arms in pretty good shape to look good in a sleeveless dress.
But if you're sold on these four dresses, I like No. 2 and then No. 1. I think No. 4 looks really, really young. It's cute, but to me, it belongs on a 20 year old.

I'm not sure how tall you are, but I am 5'9 and every single ModCloth dress is too short for me. They are all multiple inches above my knee. Just as an FYI!

I think #4 is too young. I'm 35 and I think it's too young for me. The others are all nice.

I don't know how tall you are but I have purchased from ModCloth before and you really need to look at the length of those dresses, especially number 3. I tried number 4 on and granted I am 5'10" but that dress looked like a grown women trying to wear a child's dress. No 1 is the longest in length.
I just wanted to caution you and I would buy at least 3 of them, try them all on and then return the ones you didn't want. They have a great return policy. Too many times I have bought stuff other people raved on and then I get it and it's just not that great.

Is there a reason these links go to 'shareasale.com' instead of straight to modcloth? For the record i only opened the first one once i found that happening, I'm assuming all the links do that.

Thanks for all your help, ladies. I do appreciate it!
I wish I could get the I Love Your Dress in the length of the Windy City dress.
I am going to check out Talbots next time I'm out that way. Will also check Penningtons. Last year, I couldn't find any dresses there that weren't maxis. But they may have some this year.
