Mabel, my 11 year old Dachshund, was diagnosed this weekend with Congestive Heart Failure.
This summer, the vet noticed her heart was slightly enlarged, and put her on an ace inhibitor. Now, we have added a couple of more pills prescribed by the emergency vet. Her symptoms were rapid breathing, her murmur was a 5/6 severity, and heart was 20%+ larger than it should be. Her respiratory rate was 150/minute, but has since dropped to 50.
She seems to feel great now (I just brought her home from the overnight stay with the emergency vet). She does cough when she gets excited.
I'm wondering how long your dog lived after this diagnosis, and any other suggestions or details you might share.

Sausage had CHF. He lived for about 7 months after diagnosis. He had a heart murmur since birth, so his heart was already weak.
Zoey lived for a couple years after diagnosis. No heart murmur.
ETA: We watched them more closely, especially when it was hot/humid or if we took them to the park.

In 2003, My Cocker Buck lived about two years after diagnosis. He had CHF and a murmer. He was just over 14 when we had to make the decision. He was so lethargic, super heavy breathing, and his appetite had diminished.

Sorry to hear about Mabel! Sounds like she is stable with her new meds. Perhaps the cough is from the ACE Inhibitors-humans tend to have a cough associated with them, not sure about dogs. Our dog has had a heart murmur since we adopted her at 4 (she's now almost 10). The vet just keeps monitoring it and has mentioned possibly needing meds. Good luck with Mabel. Love the name!!
