Today is a milestone day in my house. We have a driver's test today. So, this will either be a celebratory dinner or dinner w/a very disappointed teenager. We think he's ready or we wouldn't allow him to test, but we're not DMV testers. He's been promised an Oreo Shake after school if he passes. What he doesn't know is that he's getting one anyway, because he's been giving it a good effort. I'm making Chinese chicken salad which has nothing to do w/driving tests, at all. Meanwhile, stay in your houses and I'll let you know if it's safe to go outside or not in a bit.
What's on your menu?
Have a happy Thursday everyone.

I am roasting a whole chicken that is cut in half. It will be either be used for stir fry or be served along side mashed potatoes, roasted butternut squash, and cranberry sauce. I will come back once I know Ad the rest that I dont use will be for left overs. Love tose whole roasting chickens. For .69 cents a pound I get two dollars for about $4

My parents made us all do extra hours before we could test. And I am glad they did.

It's my brother-in-law's birthday. He's bringing steaks for my husband to grill. We are choosing to ignore that it's blowing snow and 30 degrees outside.

You were ready and safe to be on the road. I see so many rear enders on my way to school each morning, because of kids w/licenses that are just not driving safely or really don't know how to drive. It's scary. At first, my son will only be able to drive back and forth to school or a few blocks from home to his best friend's house. Only after he's driven a while will we allow farther trips and we will be driving w/him a lot in the meantime. My oldest son just got his permit and we're starting the cycle all over, again.

Ooooh good luck to your ds! Hope it goes well!!
I just finished making pork tenderloin. The girls have soccer practice from 2-4 and I imagine we'll be there until 4:30 at least. They have the fields for a bit after the practice is over. So all I'm going to make when we get home is oven roasted broccoli and oven roasted brussel sprouts.

Every man for himself tonight. I'll be home late following a quiz bowl competition. I coach our school's team and we are in the finals tonight. So looking forward to having the season behind us. My DH is a very good sport about coming up with his own dinner. Now cleaning up after himself is another story. He eventually gets around to washing dishes, but there is no sense of urgency.

Good luck to your son, Scrapmaven!
It's my kids' science fair tonight. It starts at 6. We're going to have something quick before we go.. Scrambled eggs with peppers and cheese. Will toast some bagels to go with it. Fresh fruit if they want that too. If not, they can have it when we get home if they are still hungry.

I am really not sure. First time in a long time. DH will be by himself after tonight as I am going out of town tomorrow myself for an adventure with DD. I might have breakfast for supper like so many RP's have said on these threads. I have eggs, potatoes, tortillas, salsa, and an avocado. This thread just helped me figure it out . Thanks for posting the thread.

Well, parts of last night's smoked chicken found its way into a broccoli, rice and cheese casserole. I have to say, it was a MAJOR success. I'm so glad he shares my love of the one-pot meal!!
Tonight, fresh from my kitchen victory, we are going out to a new bar and grill that just opened! I see a steak in my future . . .

Well I am home alone for the next two nights. I still am not feeling 100% after my recent stomach bug. I think I will finish up the chicken soup dh made. For some weird reason I am craving a green salad but not sure how that will sit on an uneasy tummy.
scrapmaven, I hope your son passes! It's such an exciting time in a teens life. I will be rooting for him from Alaska!

I had a lot of food that I bought to go with the weekly menu I had planned, but since my menu plans never seem to work out how I would like them to, I had to do something with all of food. So, I'm cooking a few different things that I will stash in the freezer. (I know that I am such an interesting person and lead such an interesting life that all of you wanted to know that. ) Anyway.....we're having spaghetti pie, roasted green beans, carrots, and cauliflower, sliced apples, and bread sticks. The spaghetti pie is not one of the things I made today. I took it out of the freezer to free up some space for what I am cooking today.

Woohoo. He passed. He passed. Now he can drive himself to school. I'll still drive his older brother, though. But, he passed. My taxi service is almost out of business. Thank you for the good thoughts everyone. My babies are growing up and I'm not ready. However, I am ready for the chicken to finish boiling for tonight's Chinese Chicken Salad.

Pizza. It's one of those pre made crusts that you throw toppings on and bake. And my guys/carb eaters are making it. So I'll probably have my usual "everything but the kitchen sink" salad. And my husband just called and asked if I'd bake another dozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes (it's on Pinterest for anyone interested) for one of his soldier's daughter's birthday tomorrow. He took in some of the leftover cupcakes from my son's birthday yesterday for his guys at work. They inhale them like they normally do. But one of the guys is a single father and has a little girl whose favorite thing is cookie dough. So of course I'm going to bake them. It's the right thing to do!

We're having bierocks for the main dish. Not sure yet what sides, I am running out of veggies since I haven't been to the store this week. Fried potatoes sound good but they're such a pain to make.
