Our family is just devastated. My kids and I are really close to Granny and my poor mom is just beside herself.
I have posted about my grandmother several times over the past few years. In 2011 she was struck down by a mysterious stroke like illness that caused her to have excruciating pain in her scalp and cheek. The Peas beat the GP, the ENT, and the Neurologist in determining that it was caused by the Triagimic (sp) nerves. The neurologist finally connected the nerve pain to the SINGLE postule the ENT had seen and determined that Granny had this pain due to a terrible case of shingles. Yep, someone can have shingles and not have a ton of blisters.
Granny has been ill since then, just weak and passing out easily. On 7/7, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Against the odds, she survived the surgery to remove the cancer and part of her bowel, and then she lived thru her second heart attack just 3 days after the surgery. She starts chemo in a couple of weeks and should go for 18 weeks. If she survives the chemo, the odds are 85% that the cancer will be back in less than 2 years. Without the chemo, the cancer will return in less than a month and she'll be dead in 2. Granny isn't ready to go, so she's hunkering down for chemo.
What should I put in a bag for her to take with her? I also want to make a bag for my mom, too, as she'll have to be there with Granny. For Granny I thought a pillow and blanket, slippers, a hard candy to suck on, Chapstick, hand cream,
For Mom, a neck pillow and blanket - this may be the only time she truly gets to rest as Granny is already up and down all night- some gum and candy, some puzzle books and pencils, extra reading glasses
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
