I'm not sure it's considered a craft, but I'm going to make this sometime this month. The boys and I are weeding through all their Hot Wheels to decide which ones they want to keep to look at, vs keep to play with. And, I'm trying to figure out what would the best adhesive be for adhering the cars to the mirror?? Any suggestions?

I've been wanting to do a whole cloth quilt for a long time, but have been very scared of the marking of the design. So I decided to what I call modern wholecloth where it is one large piece of fabric on the front and the back. I got 2 pieces of 108 wide material and batting and sandwiched them.
First step: I drew random 6 1/2 inch squares in a not straight diagonal. I quilted those and then did a parallel inside box. Second step: In those boxes, I quilted yellow/gold fun flowers.
I am deciding the steps as I go along and it is working because I am using my sitdown Handiquilter -- not sure this could be done on a long arm without rolling a lot back and forth! It's nice to be able to turn the quilt whatever way I want to go and to move in any direction.
I am currently on the Third step: a Feathered path between the blocks...all blocks will be connected by curvy lines/feathers, but randomly almost like stepping stones on a stone path. The middle of the feathers are pearl paths. I am loving the way this is looking. (see attached picture).
I am thinking of my Fourth step: I am considering a few random modern curvy dragon/butterflies on what is now the "stones" possibly in another color -- light blues?..... And was thinking of mctavishing with possibly some circles and swirls a little more dense than the feathering. I thought about cross hatching to bring in some more straight lines, but worry about keeping them straight over the whole quilt (which is going to end up queen-sized I hope).
I don't know if you can see but both the boxes and feather paths are done in a gray color called "stone" and the flowers are deep yellow gold.
I have about 1/3 of the feather paths to complete and then onward..I might change my mind before I start the next step though!
It won't let me post the pic from Photobucket....sad....![]()

Very nice ladies . I'm still enjoying furniture makeovers, which I guess is crafty since I'm using a lot of paint and some fabric. Below is the "before" and current progress on my 1950s sewing cabinet. I've got the chair/bench thing pretty much done, now I'm just working on the cabinet itself. The old Pfaff sewing machine that came with it was beyond repair, so I have to get a new table top for the cabinet (there was a big hole where the machine dropped down in the original), and plan on using it as a desk for my laptop when I'm finished. Is the chair part of the actual cabinet? It looks like it is, and if so, I love it! I have never seen one like this before. Now I want one! Where did you get this unusual piece? It is a part of the cabinet. It slides right into it and makes one piece. Below is a photo of it with the machine still in it. The machine had broken gears inside (I could only get it to do a zig zag stitch, and that was just using the hand wheel because the power cord and foot pedal were shot), and wasn't worth trying to repair, but it was the cabinet that I was most interested in. I got it all at Goodwill for $35. I've seen lots of other vintage sewing cabinets there since, but none that work like this one. I dated the machine to the late 50s, so the cabinet is that old too, and it is a solid piece of furniture. It took some heavy pounding with a rubber mallet to get the original top off .

I've been spending the last couple of weeks making things for my brother and SIL's baby shower. A baby banner, rosettes for the walls, name tags for the grandma's and mom and hanging garland for above the tables. Sadly I didn't take pictures of ANY of them before I gave them to my mom last week

I recently finished up this afghan - it was a Mystery Crochet-a-Long - I didn't know what it would look like until the end (you get a new clue each week to crochet for 10 weeks). I really, really, really dislike it - ugh. It is not the size they initially said it would be and is only 30 x 36 - about the size of a baby blanket but doesn't look like a baby blanket - I don't know what to do with it. I think I will give it to the local pet shelter. This is the 2nd Mystery CAL I did and I didn't like either one of the finished blankets - no more mystery projects for me.

After I finished that, I decided to finish up another work-in-progress that I had started at the end of last year. It is a gift for my niece. I sketched it on graph paper first. Then I cross-stitched it. It looks like her family - complete with kitty cat - I was real happy with how it came out. She lives in New Zealand and I am going to mail it off to her tomorrow.
Sketch Finish Cross-Stitch

I'm currently working on a baby afghan - another WIP that I started at the end of last year. I'm on round 22 and there are 30 rounds so I'm getting there (sorry - not the best photo)

Thanks to the crochet thread a few days ago, I got out a hook and a bunch of leftover yarn. Looked at a bunch of things online and found something I wanted to try. Found directions in Basque and managed to figure them out anyway. I really would like to add a photo. Any ideas, or it'll have to wait until I look up Photobucket? While the crochet is impressive, I am most impressed that you were able to figure out instructions written in Basque! Right? I'm totally patting myself on the back here.

I'm sorry you don't like it. It looks fine, but the colors aren't for everyone. I think this is why I never did a mystery anything. I change patterns all the time into something I want and figured I'd be too pissed midway through something like this to finish it.

I've been finishing up knitting projects. I've finished a baby hoodie, a hat, and mittens. No photos. The hat will have to be un-knitted -- it is SO wide, I could fit it over a large watermelon. No melon needs a wool hat! I just choked on my pizza

I long to be in my room crafting again. I am going to be ready to start measuring and laying out where all the industrial pieces will go. If I hustle, maybe I will get something created before March is over.

Disneypal, I think the mystery afghan is quite nice for the right person. Could you donate it to a resthome for someone in a wheelchair to use as a lap throw. I bet they would love it.

I'm still in my "slump", I guess. Made a pair of boot cuffs on my way to an out of town meeting last weekend. I actually loved them and got several compliments on them.
While there I wanted to make a C2C blanket for some dear friends. Meeting was juuuust about over & I was frantically finishing up. Got to the last corner, tied off, picked it up and realized I had missed half a return row about 10 or so from the end, so it looked like a trapezoid. Pulled it out and got it right, but ran out of yarn with about 3 rows left. It's still sitting where it was when I chucked it in disgust as soon as we got home.
I really wanted to make these for my sister's wedding but yea....

Crochet - this cowl: littlemonkeyscrochet.com/comfy-squares-color-block-cowl/ Knitting - a Big Bad Baby Blanket in a neutral bamboo yarn. Cross-stitch - this designI'll share a pic of my progress on the cross stitch when I have a chance to get one in daylight; the others are at too early a stage to be worth it. I seriously doubt any of these will get finished in March, but I'm trying to ensure I do something on one of them each day at a minimum. Plus I just received a big batch of photo prints so I'm hoping they will inspire me to scrap lots too.

I hadn't thought of that - it is smaller than the average throw but it may work for a small lap throw. I have a friend whose mom is in a nursing home. Maybe I will see if she would like it - thank you for the suggestion - I would love someone to use it

Still working on this shell stitch blanket for my daughter. I hope to finish it by the end of March. I have to figure out if I have enough yarn to finish.

This is a table runner I made for a friend's birthday. It's a traditional jewel box block. Quick and easy and she likes it.

My other crafting obsession recently has been these little pea pod zipper bags (that's the name of the pattern by Joan Hawley of Lazy girl quilting). They're ridiculously fast and easy to stitch up, and just perfect for a small gift. Each bag only takes one 10 inch square of fabric, a scrap of fusible batting, half a zipper, and a zipper pull. I've perfected my technique to the point where I average less than 15 minutes per bag when I do assembly line construction.

I just completed this quilt last night, so no photos of the finished project yet. It's a scrappy take on the traditional Crossroads block using a the last remnants of my French General Christmas print fabrics along with things from my scrapbox that I thought could coordinate. The free motion quilting is variations on lancaster rose motifs centered on each block.

Because it is National Crafts Month, I thought I'd start a new thread for us to share our current projects. What are you working on, plan to work on or have completed recently? Would love to see what everyone is doing. This month I plan to put together the blocks from last year's Stash Bee, as well as start working on some new tops for spring. I also have a chambray jumper to cut out and sew for my mom. This is my month to design the block for my quilt block swap. Even though I am not a huge fan of paper piecing, I picked a block that is exactly that. It turned out very well and I'm excited to see what blocks show up as the month goes along. The block is Union Jack and I've asked for it to be done in reds and grays. This is the block I completed for my tutorial: ![]() I really love this! Explain to me (a total non quilter) how a quilt block swap works...?

Love your take on the union jack block, GypsyGirl. That's one that's on my to-do list, but it looks a little fiddly, so it keeps getting moved down the list.

I love seeing everyone's crafts, such lovely work.
As per the crochet thread, I'm working away at my granny squares for an afghan:
There's another 40 being blocked right now and I still have about 30 more to get to this stage and then I'll do one final row of dark grey around all of them before I sew it up.
